Customer Reviews of ZooLife with Jack Hanna: Lions, Tigers and Bears
Cute for kids Jack Hanna is a bit of an acquired taste. He's goofy and when you see his appearances on shows like David Letterman, it's hard to know if this guy is an ..., is putting on an act for humerous effect, or has some sort of speech impediment. Watching this video, it's pretty clear he isn't an .... He loves animals, isn't afraid of them, and can talk about them in a way that works well for kids, but he doesn't talk down to them.
There are lots of animals on display in this 48 minute video. Knowing kids are going to have short attention spans, Hanna only spends a couple of minutes with any given species. Start with Tigers. Watch them romp as "kittens." Bored with Tigers? No problem, cuz here come Lions. And so forth. It's VERY basic stuff, but gosh darn it if the animals aren't cute nonetheless. You can't go far wrong with Pandas or White Tiger cubs!
The cinematography is, generously, competent. Nothing too daring. It's filmed on video and isn't of the highest quality. In this day of Digital video, it's easy to forget that this format is relatively new. All the footage is filmed at various zoos around the US, so we aren't being taken on a travelogue, so we don't get much of a sense of the environment these animals live in. Hanna and his experts handle the animals so much, one does worry a little that kids will get the wrong idea about touching these beasts...but how often will THAT opportunity come up??
Overal, this is a solid if uninspired video. I think kids aged, let's say 5 - 12 would enjoy it. Parents probably wouldn't mind watching along, at least one time. For the low-price, you can't beat it!
