Customer Reviews of Yoga for Urban Living
I'd give this 10 stars if I could... I'd like to thank the other reviewers who recommended this dvd. I wasn't going to get it at first, because I already have more yoga dvds and videos than I know what to do with. I decided to splurge anyway and wow - am I ever glad I got it. It's now my absolute favourite yoga dvd in my collection and I'm going to be doing it a lot from now on.
This dvd covers it all. I too, love the Yoga Bath segment which is very relaxing to do in the evening, or just when you want to unwind (about 25 mins in length). Actually I love all the routines. The Morning Quickie is a fantastic 35 min. morning wake up yoga segment. And the third routine, Journey of Connection, is a terrific one hour workout for whenever you have the time to do a more indepth routine. And I love the breathing instructional segment. Never before have I seen one dvd (or video) cover all the different types of yogic breathing like this one does. She shows you four types - 3 part breath, Ujjai, Kapalabati, and energized breathing. Those who enjoy doing kundalini yoga will appreciate the more energetic breaths you don't often get in a hatha routine.
Hemalaya covers all the bases. Truly excellent. If you only get one yoga dvd, this is the one to get! I love the music, you have the option of just her voice over, or just the music, or both. I go with both, as I find Hemalaya's voice soothing. This dvd is the best investment I've made in a long time. I still can't believe you get so many routines of varying lengths and intensity all on one dvd... Very nice!
A wonderful, hip yoga DVD
I've been doing yoga (lazily) for about a year now, and this is by far my favorite workout. Most DVDs, I think, either go too slow, too fast (don't hold the poses long enough) or demand too much. But each of these workouts allow you to stretch, relax and feel energized. I do the morning quickie every morning and love how it gets me going and opens up the hips so I can comfortably sit in a chair the rest of the day. The 60-minute workout is a perfect all-around stretch when you've got the time. I like the oms, the small movements, and the fact that it's challenging but not impossible. The DVD is also very high quality, and quite frankly, I like Hemalaya Behl's style and the fact that she's young.
Solid integrated yoga video
I have found this dvd to be most similar to the yoga classes I take. This dvd integrates the methods of ashtanga, kundalini, and vinyasa. The empahsis placed on the warm up is welcome compared to some other yoga dvds. Hemalaya Behl is professional and soothing, but not too foo-foo. The 3 segments provide flexibility and when I don't feel like a vinyasa flow I can still get my yoga for the day in with the night time session. The one problem is that the cueing could be better. At times she is trying to provide verbal cues so that she "mirrors" the viewer, but the cues often don't match your movements. I just go from one side to the other and ignore which side she says to start with. But if you are new and need precise cueing this might be a dvd to buy after a few months of class work.
