Number three my friends
I've been waiting for this film to come out on DVD in the US because it is simply the funniest film I have ever seen. Since that won't be happening anytime soon (thanks Jay Leno) I went ahead and got the french version. This movie is end to end side splitting shenanigans. I haven't laughed that hard since our cat hit a three run double in a slow pitch softball game. Babs is flat on her game in this comedy. She just makes me laugh out loud in every film she is in. Her comedic timing and down to earth persona remind me of the old guy on the Benny Hill show. You'd think slapping his head episode after episode would get old, but I never grow tired of it. It makes me smile super big. In this film I think Strysand plays a boy who is supposed to be a girl trying to get into a convent, which is a recipe for hysterical laughter any day of the week. As funny as that premise is, the results will just blow you away. I took five girls to see it when it came out and we just laughed and laughed until it was time for us to hook up. That is why it is the third best film of all time. This movie reminds me of a story. Sit down for a sec, I'm going to spin a tale for everyone. <

>Back in high school I was extremely gifted in more ways than you can imagine. I'm sitting by me lockuh in the morn and this hot sophomore comes up to me and wants to know what I'm doing Friday night. You're not going to believe what I did next. I kind of rolled my eyes toward my nose, said "Derrrr" and ran full speed into a locker. The girl was completely stunned and couldn't believe what I just did. Word started passing around school about what I did and the buzz was so strong you could taste it. The school paper wanted to run a front page layout on it and Carol Schrader wanted to do a feature on the local ABC affiliate. I just took it all in stride and knew I had moved the bar up to another level. It just goes to show you that I'm Tony Gwynn pushing .400 in a strike shortened season and you're Bob Horner missing one of his arms.

Yentl - French release
I decided to risk the French release and am very happy I did. It is marked Mono on the DVD jacket but the music, songs and effects are in stereo, and listening to it under headphones was a treat ! It is in a 1.66:1 aspect ratio and can be seen in widescreen on a 16/9 TV in either the Zoom, Wide or Smart formats, so until the official DVD is released by B. Streisand, this will do very well.

i was very surprised, and excited when this was released in europe. i got mine from amazon.fr, and it was worth the money i paid for it (i seem to pay more for shipping than for the disc itself!). yentl is barbra's first directorial feature and you can see the effort and detail that had been carefully shown in the movie. the vhs has been out of print for many years and to have this movie, finally on dvd, is a blessing. who knows when the director's version will be released in the us although i read that it has been completed. in the mean time, do get this cd and enjoy the movie over and over again, it's still as fresh as it was, back when it was first released!
