Customer Reviews of Y4k: Past Lessons Future Theories
Groovylicious, baby. A tasty dollop of nighttime dance music spread out over 2 discs - the first CD unloads a fresh platter of mid-tempo but infectious breaks with thumps and drums and even some bass rolling around at the bottom. Bumps and taps swap out and roll around in their kinetic dart-around rhythmic way and put a hook under your brain to keep you listening and gyrating. The mood is cool like shades and brings the flavor of the night to your ears. Now you're warmed up for the house attack on disc two, which kicks off with "True to Form," an oddly Cure/Depeche Mode-ish filtered through house type track. Then it's on to the smooth moves and disco balls of "Tide of Dreams," "It'll Be Okay," "West Ghost" and more. Potent, groove-laden steady house bumpin' comes rolling at you, settin' those dance lights to flickering. There's a smooth tinge in common between these two discs, both featuring beat-driven tunes amped by spartan but lovely melodies and titillating textures, the primary difference being the beats. CD 1 throws at you the scattergun bop of breakbeats, set at mid-speed, while CD 2 rolls in on big steady house wheels. Yummy. -- one of the weekly reviews from Raves.com written by Kristofer Upjohn
