Xbox 360 sets a new pace for digital entertainment. More than just a cutting-edge game system, Xbox 360 also integrates high-definition video, DVD movie playback, digital music, photos, and online connectivity into one sleek, small tower.

About the Xbox 360 Hardware

Xbox 360 with wireless controller
Xbox 360, shown with wireless controller, is a sleek, customizable gaming and entertainment system.

Xbox 360 is much smaller than its predecessor--it measures approximately 3.3 by 12.2 by 10.2 inches and weighs 7.7 lbs. It's powered by custom IBM PowerPC-based CPU with three symmetrical cores each running at 3.2 GHz. It also carries a custom ATI graphics processor 10 MB of embedded DRAM. This is powerful enough to draw 500 million triangles per second. In other words, it makes for great looking games in standard TV definition, and even better thanks to built-in support for HDTV 1080i televisions. It also supports the widescreen 16:9 format.

The unit has a 12x dual-layer DVD-ROM drive, which plays both the game media and progressive-scan DVD movies right out of the box. For game-save and media storage, users can choose between the detachable and upgradeable 20GB hard drive, or a separately sold 64MB flash Memory Unit. Along with storing files, the hard drive will make the Xbox 360 backward-compatible with part of the existing Xbox game library.

Xbox 360 uses a refined button layout for its controllers. Back and Start buttons sit at the center of the controller and between them is a new Xbox Guide button, which instantly takes the user to the Xbox 360 user interface. From there, they can check for friends online, access personal digital content like photos and songs, and more. The black and white buttons of the first Xbox controllers have been replaced with new shoulder buttons placed above the left and right triggers. Xbox 360 can accommodate up to four wireless controllers and has three USB 2.0 slots to use for wired controllers or for streaming your digital media from digital cameras, MP3 players, and any Windows XP-based PC. Microsoft has announced plans for a upcoming video-conferencing camera that will work with the system.

Xbox 360 user interface
Xbox 360 can manage your games, your online friends, and your personal digital library.

About Xbox 360 Games and Media
Xbox 360 is scheduled to launch with more than 20 launch titles, with several more slated to be released within the following month. Launch titles include Madden NFL 2006, Project Gotham Racing 3, and the long-awaited Perfect Dark Zero. All Xbox 360 titles can be played in either standard or high-definition resolution in 16:9 widescreen, with anti-aliasing for smoother graphics. Game designers will be able to take advantage of the system's multi-channel surround sound. The Xbox 360's digital media allows users to supplement any game's music from tracks in their own personal library.

About Xbox Live
A built-in Ethernet port allows users to connect their system to a broadband connection for access to the new Xbox Live Silver. The included service lets anyone create a Gamertag and gamer card to express your online identity, chat live with voice chat, and connect to the Xbox Live Marketplace to buy expansions, maps, and other digital goodies for your games. The subscription service Xbox Live Gold adds to that online competition, game stats, and video chat/messaging. The separately sold wireless adapter supports the common 802.11a, -b, and -g standards.

Customer Reviews of Xbox 360 Pro Player's Bundle

Xbox 360: From a prototype built on dreams to reality, Casty exclusive
Xbox 360 is an inevitable monster of creation that will be lurking on doorsteps before the holiday season. A hardware hybrid that will have Sony and Nintendo screaming blair witch. It's aim is to dominate the gaming world with weapons of mass potential. These weapons include but are certainly not limited to hardware that is exclusively and specially designed for 360. Such as the heart-pounding IBM Central Processing Unit (CPU) codenamed "Xenon" with its triple-threat processing cores each running at a blazing 3.2 GHz. And the custom-built ATI Graphic Processing Unit (GPU / Video card) running at an impenetrable 500 MHz. Tack on the 512 GDDR (Graphics Double Data Rate, version 3) of RAM that is specifically designed for graphics technology and you have yourself a bona fide gaming machine looking to head-hunt the competition. The Microsoft team has decided to release two packages to suit their customers. The first is the steak and potatoes premium package that features a chromed out silver detailing and includes all of the following: <
> <
>* Xbox 360 console <
>* Detachable 20 GB hard drive <
>* 2.4 GHz Wireless controller <
>* Xbox-Live Headset <
>* Component HD-AV cable <
>* Xbox Live Silver membership <
>* One month limited trial membership for Xbox Live Gold <
>* Ethernet cable <
>* Bonus Media Remote (a limited time offer for the initial Holiday season shipment) <
> <
>The detachable hard-drive:The detachable hard-drive is an ingenius idea that docks on top of the Xbox like a removeable brain without the mess ready to store 20 gigs of gaming data. It's sleek and small size make it ideal to bring with you to a friend's house. The detachable hard-drive will be available to purchase separately (retail $100). Talks of Microsoft making detachable hard-drives with larger storage capacities are in the making (such as 50gig, 100gig versions). Most likely this will come about down the road. But what about third-party versions such as IBM, Western Digital, Samsung, or Maxtor detachable hard-drives for the xbox 360? Time will only tell but Microsoft usually doesn't let up on it's tight grip. <
> <
>The 2.4 GHz Wireless controller The wireless controller is virtually limitless. Take the helm from anywhere in the house with this insanely ranged wireless controller. Up to 4 wireless controllers can be used simultaneusly, 4 wireless ports are available. Read controller section below for more information. <
> <
>Component HD-AV Cable: Make the most of your Xbox 360 (High resolution) experience and connect it to a highly warranted high definition television and get resolutions, pixel depth, and detail yet unseen for gaming consoles. May be purchased seperately. S-Video (for higer resolution on regular TVs that support it), VGA connector (that's right, connect your xbox into your PC monitor -- sweet or HiDef TV). and regular video outs are also be available for purchase. <
> <
>Xbox Live Silver: Anyone with a broadband connection will be able to connect to XBOX live via Silver. With Silver there is no need for a subscription or cost. Just log on and enjoy free online gaming. <
> <
>Xbox Gold One Month membership: Like Xbox live on the previous genre with all the bells and whistles of Xbox live. <
> <
>Bonus Media Remote: Limited offer with initial Holiday purchase. A basic DVD, menu navigation remote sleekly designed to match it's big counterpart. <
> <
>Xbox 360 Core System, This basic edition includes the following components and accessories: <
>* Xbox 360 console <
>* Wired controller <
>* Standard AV cables <
>* Xbox Live Silver membership <
>* One month limited trial membership for Xbox Live Gold <
> <
>No detachable hard-drive comes with the core system. The beauty, however, of a detacheable hard-drive is that you can always purchase one later. The same goes with the wireless controller, HD AV cables, Ethernet cable and XBOX live headset. The only things that will not be available for purchase later is the chromed out silver detailing and bonus media remote. A bulkier Xbox universal remote is available for purchase and it includes all the niches and crannies of media navigation. <
> <
>XBOX 360 Controllers: Up to 4 wireless controllers can be used simultaneously each using different port identification which will be attributed to the Xbox ring color affixed around the new "Xbox button" (different color for each port). Furthermore, 2 wired USB controller ports will be available. This is an idea that has been talked about for ages amongst peers. The idea is that if a gaming console uses USB ports for controllers that you will be able to use that console controller on the PC and vice versa (use PC controllers on the gaming console). However, I think the XBOX 360 controller will only work both on the Xbox and PC and you will not be able to plug your PC controller into the XBox 360 for reasons that are obvious. There are way too many layout configurations with all the third party controller s on market for this to be reasonable. A gaming console needs a standard layout. Manual instructions, gaming guides, tutorials and what have you for consoles cannot compensate for every different type of layout offered up by third party controllers. Ofcourse Xbox was the first to accomplish this idea (USB controllers) because it makes the most sense for their marketing (Microsoft XBOX, Microsoft OS). <
> <
>Controller layout: <
>The new xbox 360 controller will be almost identical to the type "S" layout (smaller version of the original xbox controller released after the xbox's initial emergence) with ofcourse a few added buttons and changes such as the "xbox 360 guide button" and glowing ring (changes color interactively and tells the player what port he is plugged into) which are conveniently located in the top center of the front panel between the "start" and "select" buttons. It is the ever-watchful eye of the xbox 360. With this button you can wake your Xbox up from sleep mode or bring up the xbox guide menu during gameplay to access media content and configuration settings. Nifty. Also, the 360 has done away with those "hard-to-find during gameplay" black and white buttons. Those buttons only made sense for a few titles (Tiger Woods, power boost swing to only name one). Now these buttons are located on the shoulders (left and right) of the controller (like the "L1" and "R1" on the Playstation controller) where they are more easily accessible during gameplay. Thank God, I never did like those black and white buttons. Don't panic, these shoulder buttons haven't replaced the "ever-so-useful trigger buttons". No my friends, those gems will be around for a long time. Games like Halo, other first person shooters (Fire and alternate attack), Forza, other car racing games (Gas and brake), and other titles (Madden juke) will always demand those triggers. The new 360 controller (now with shoulder buttons ie "bumpers" and the "xbox guide" button) is the most practical layout i've seen to date. The PS2 is ideal but those "R1,R2,L1,L2" buttons will never feel like triggers. <
> <
>Interchangeable face plates: Everyone will want a Xbox 360 but they will not all have to look the same. With interchangeable faceplates that easily detach you will be able to give your Xbox 360 a "mod" look without any hassle or sweat. Currently Microsoft has 7 different faceplates available and i'm sure they will release more. Keep in mind this doesn't include the countless variety that will be offered up by third-parties or modifications that you make to a blank faceplate. The possibilities are endless. <
> <
>The rivals and the cloud that hides 360's future: Now Xbox360 has more than warranted it's existence with hardware and features but will it have the software/title support to make it king. The original Xbox received a lot of criticism (namely from PS2 rivals) about it's lack of titles. And ofcourse, Xbox owners would come back with their "well, the xbox has the best graphics and hardware and untouchable titles like halo". This new beast might just prove it has both (graphics/hardware) and titles. The Xbox360 has revamped it's developer tools offering a lot of potential to developers making it harder for the big titles to stay away. Already before it's release, huge titles have latched themselves to the 360 project like leaches. Square's Final Fantasy has kicked it's devotion to Sony to produce mesmerizing and unforgettable graphics and gameplay for their fans on the 360 foundation. That leaves one less reason to own a PS2, a big one at that. A devotion dropped for a devotion gained. Their devotion to make a title that has very few limits. I don't know if you have ever compared the graphics of the xbox to the ps2 but if you ever have, you know it's like night and day. An activity not likely for the diehard PS fanatics. Will this be the case for xbox360 vs. PS3? Time will only tell, for Sony will surely have a few guns have their own. And Sony will probably remain strong with a diversity of titles in their favor. Nintendo will always seem to basket the sales on either side. A fanatic of gaming will always look to give into that simplicity + addiction + franchise factor that always seem to sell games in Nintendo's favor. The franchise will always be in their favor with timeless characters and timeless adventures (Mario and Link to only name two in their massive family). However the Nintendo revolution looks clumsy out of all three prototypes and has the least tricks up it's leave when it comes to "revolutionary" technology. The old theory ofcourse will remain, Microsoft's Xbox will always have the best hardware and it's grip on the graphical reigns, and now with all new developing tools and graphics technology that compete with headlining gaming PC hardware -- the titles should follow it's lead. History has proven that in the console wars, the first console to peek it's head around the corner has always taken the hit and died instantly. This time might prove differently. With guns blazing, an aggressive approach might be the wisest choice. And the guns are blazing. <

XBOX 360 Premium on a 50'' Samsung DLP HDTV. Stay away from the bundles, stores are slowly getting them in stock.
So my wife bought me the TV a couple weeks ago, then Friday she comes home from work with the 360 (from a Toys R Us retail store 399), Perfect Dark Zero, COD 2 and PGR 3. The box hooked up easily to my HDTV and surround sound with no issues. I plugged in my old xbox wireless adapter, migrated my profile from the "old" live to the new machine and I was up and running. The graphics, sound and gameplay are immersive and truly amazing. The 360 dashboard is much improved. The console linked up with my PC easily and I can play my PC media through the 360. I ran the 360 for 20 straight hours with no locks, lights, errors or issues. I DO HAVE ONE COMPLAINT... THE POWER SUPPLY IS LOUDER THAN A PC FAN! I understand that the 360 requires a lot of voltage and the supply puts out a lot of heat, but it just seems like a poorly designed power supply to me. I put it behind the TV, on the end where the fan can stay vented and have had no issues. It gets hot, but that is expected. Perfect Dark is no HALO 3, but it's ok. The lack of a superior launch title gets this baby a 4. HURRY UP MICROSOFT, THE 360 needs the MASTER CHIEF! This bundle deal is quite the rip off. Amazon and Toys R Us should be ashamed of themselves.

Not any games out right now...
that take advantage of the power of the Xbox 360. None of the games released at launch can truly be considered "third generation" games. If you already own an Xbox and can't get a 360 yet, don't be too concerned. You're not missing a lot in gameplay. Right now, versions of games on the Xbox are very similar to versions on the Xbox 360. <
> <
>In a few months, however, there should be some games that are really worthy of being on the Xbox 360. <
> <
>However, if connectivity is what you want in a system, Xbox 360 is right up your alley. I've never seen a videogame system allow itself to be hooked to your computer this way. This opens up a whole new way to look at system integration. <
