Customer Reviews of X-Com Enforcer
This feels like 'my first UT mod' Now that I have time to work through my backlog, I decided to give this puppy a try. I am a fan of the franchise, but from what I had heard, I never installed this game for fear of shattering my dreams. I salvaged my psyche when I realized that besides some monster references and the ever present alien threat, this game is only related to the series by name.
This review won't discuss why this game is a poor representation of the X-COM franchise. If you're an X-COM fanboi you already know this game is nothing more than Infogrames ruination of a once great title. Rather, this review will discuss why this game is not a good FPS.
#1 Total game time is about 3 hours. That's start to finish on hard difficulty. This game is easily finish-able in 1 sitting. However, for the current asking price of $1.45 that's not so bad.
#2 It seems your creator, the nerdiest of nerdy scientists completely overbuilt you. You are just so overpowered in this game it takes away from the fun. Case in point, one of your weapons is a nuke cannon that can kill anything in 1 shot. I died once in the entire game (all three hours worth) and that was due to a horrible clipping bug during a boss fight. You could run around with your eyes closed and beat half the levels in this game. There is absolutely no challenge.
#3 Though you have access to 9 weapons and 9 power-ups, each with 4 levels of refinement, you can only have 1 weapon at a time. Weapons spawn everywhere, so running out of ammo is never a problem. This adds to the games easiness and complete lack of replay.
#4 For interplanetary beings, they sure are weak and dumb. You really need to be standing in one place to even take substantial damage here. All the monsters just file towards you, no matter where you are on the level. If they've spawned, they'll come after you, no matter where you are.
#5 Finally, this has to be some of the worst mapping I've ever seen in a retail production. The levels are blocky, teeny, and almost completely empty. For one boss fight, the mappers failed to close two vertices so you get half your screen in an infinite mirror, making it extremely hard to aim at a distance. Playing through the game is just a showcase of pure mediocrity.
Overall, it feels like this was something thrown together over a weekend. The story is non-existent, there's only 8 different types of baddies, the ending is horrible and it fails to hit either of its target audiences (X-COM fans and FPS fans).
Does it have an upside? Well, the fact that you can upgrade all of your weapons makes you look forward to the next inter-mission research screen. It's the one addictive aspect to the game. That... and I thought the Chryssalids looked neat ^_^.
AWSOME
THIS GAME GETS FIVE STARES BECAUSE the graphics are good and the game is fun!
X-COM ENFORCER is it worth it?
Well, if your a shooter finatic, yes. This is becuase the game uses the unique UNREAL tournement engine, the same engine that brought you StarTrek: The Fallen,Rune, and quite a few others. The grphics are great on this game thogh you should have a good grapghics acclerator before you buy, since system standard for games now is 233mhz.
There is alot of action in the game and quite a few guns you can use, but there is one draw back; once you pick up a gun or weapon you lose the one you where just using. It isnt that bad becuase it keeps the game interesting. In the game one you kill an enemy you can get data points to upgrade your weapons. You also get bonus rounds to reicive more data pionts to upgrade.
You get over 35 missions in the game totaling to about 40 missions in all. most misson are the same rescue the endangerd humans and destroy the aliens, every one of them!
Game saves in the game could be a headache becuase you can only save after beating a mission. Most of the time you could finish a mission inthe a matter of minutes, meaning you could beat the game in maybe 2 sittings.
There is great value to this game becuase it is only [$$$] for a shooter with 40 levels, compared to a game like Serious Sam with only 25 missions for [$$$] . You mate think this is a lame comparison but its true you would have more fun with a game that is chaeper and has more missions or levels.
Most of all this game is pretty fun and very cheap in price , plus you could have more fun becuase it has a built in browser for multiplayer games on the net.
