Customer Reviews of Wireless Ethernet Bridge
Horrible product! No support, doesn't even work! This product will not work for most applications. If you are looking for a device to allow your wired computer to access the internet, then this will work for you. <
> <
>If you expect to be able to access the wired device across the wireless network, then this device will not work. I had bought two of these units, one for a TIVO connection, and the other for a VOIP phone. Neither device worked. <
> <
>The WE800G would allow the wired device to establish network connections, but not to accept them (95% of the pings attempts would fail). The only time you could connect was if the wired device was in the process of making an outbound connection. <
> <
>Motorola support is horrible. No firmware updates, and no solution. I asked for an RMA, and they warned me that they would replace the unit, but I should expect the same functionality out of the new unit. <
> <
>It's junk! Stay away.
No Windows File and Printer Sharing Support.
That's what Motorola tech support said to me and that really pulls a vacuum. Because small things could make a difference, my experience is with Windows 2000.

>You have to set your computer's IP address to one that is in the same subnet address as the router: 192.168.30.??. I believe the last number can be anything but 1 (address of the bridge, they say 10). This is simply to access the web based configuration utility.
<
>
<
>After you have configured the unit you must then reset your computers IP address back to whatever is was or whatever your router or internet service provider requires as part of a LAN with file and printer sharing and internet connection. If this has become too geeky for you then you need to do a little research on home networking.

>I never used the CD so I can't provide testimony as to its functionality. As far as the configuration utility, I think they all could be a lot better explained, but this one is no worse than any other. There are a lot of bells and whistles on these types of things that are not ever mentioned in the standard instructions.

>I got internet access on the computer through which it was attached right away, which is all you need for a Playstation or Xbox. You can set it up on a PC and then move it to your game station, which is the beauty of a wireless ethernet bridge. Once setup you can attach it to any computer for instant access to your LAN. My beef is that the computer on which it was attached could not detect any of the other computers on my LAN or vise versa; except my one Linux box (thumbs up to Linux).

>So, It works good if all you want is internet access, but it is incompatible with Windows File and Printer Sharing.
Utter crap; avoid like the plague
The manuals for this product are confusing and incomplete. Actually, that's probably too kind.

>I've set up computer networks for a living for the past 15 years and I could not get this thing to work. It seems they've decided to violate every convention there is for a device acting as a bridge. While I could get a directly connected PC to talk to the bridge device, it never was able to associate and pass packets with my WiFi device (in this case an Apple Airport Extreme).
