Customer Reviews of Wine Discoveries
What Steve Said.... I have subscribed to WD for most of its life (maybe 15+ years). The only better bargain than the low-cost, high-quality wines recommended is the newsletter itself. If you like wine and want to get the best for the least money, this is for you. I learn something every issue, and I have been buying wine for about 40 years.
Superb Resource
A couple of years ago I attended a "pot luck" wine tasting party at which most guests brought wines ranging from $15-$25 per bottle. It was enjoyable and educational to compare and contrast that characteristics of the various lovely wines. But as I presented my entry, it drew special attention because of the bright magenta price tag on it with large numbers emblazened across it - $5.95.

>As I began pouring, everyone immediately noticed the aroma that permeated the room as a precursor to the most memorable tasting experience of the evening. The unanimous ooohs and aaaahhhs made my entry the winner by acclamation, with no close second.

>Naturally, I was pleased with the outcome of our friendly contest, and not really surprised either. But I would have been prouder had it not for the fact that I had cheated. I had been coached by one of the most distinguished wine experts in the country. My wine was a Wine Discoveries recommendation that I had cellared for about 3 years.

>I have been a Wine Discoveries subscriber since 1981, and still consider it to be my primary source for wine recommendations. Six times per year it is a welcome sight in my mail box, and I read, actually study it, and save it for future reference.

>It is a four page newsletter that blows away the other slicker publications because it is best at saving my time and money. It saves time because it has no ads or photos to search through, just expert information about wine, not wine country travel or wine gurus.

>Wine Discoveries saves money because they review wines that we normal people can actually afford to buy, and cellar if we want to. Some of their recommendations even come with screw caps. They also recommend exceptional values that are over their usual $8 limit.

>Bottom line: their panel, headed up by editor Arthur Damond does the leg work for you. They take the hit-and-miss out of wine buying, presenting vital information in terms we all understand.

>Since they are located in the San Francisco area, not all of their buying sources are available nationwide. But I live in the Dallas, Texas area, and have no trouble finding 90 percent of their recommendations - often in national retail chains.
