When you request a "Locate" (either via phone or Internet), Wherify's Location Service Center sends a wireless transmission to teh Locator. The Locator zeroes in on the optimal GPS satellites and determines its location using latitude and longitude. With those coordinates, your child's position is pinpointed with advanced mapping software, providing you an approximate street address (if available). You can choose between two formats when using the Internet: a standard street map or custom aerial photo.
Other features include:
- Built-in pager receives and stores up to 10 numeric pages.
- Atomic clock synchronization sets the watch accurately, no matter what time zone you're in.
- The rugged, lightweight, and adjustable locator is water- and cut-resistant.

Customer Reviews of Wherify Wireless GPS Personal Locator Watch for Children, Purple
As a dealer, I'll pass... We started listing the watches as an affiliate early 2004. The watch itself is sturdy, but the latch is very poorly designed and manufactured. The demo we received broke in under a month of light use. The coverage is very spotty throughout the United States and can't be used in a lot of areas. Quality and coverage were the most common complaints from other dealers. The most common complaint from customers was coverage and the price of tracking. <

>The dealer support itself is terrible. Wherify was giving dealers links to their site, but the cookies to track sales were getting lost and dealers were not being paid on sales. That was brought to their attention numerous times with a promise that it would be fixed. After 5 months of no action and hearing of problems with the watch, we dropped the product. I have talked with several dealers that left due to the way Wherify treated them and problems with the watch. <

>There will be a good GPS watch out shortly and if is a quality product, a good portion of Wherify dealers will jump ship if they haven't already...
48 hours into the service and counting...
Perhaps I shouldn't have ordered this from Amazon since as usual they exceeded expectations as far as ease of use and good service. After opening the box, beginning a relationship with Wherify has been daunting. First the charger/key fob kept slipping out and even now after having been charging for some 30 hours, the locator doesn't have a full battery. The Activation guide also has problems- the published prompts that are supposed to appear do not follow the actual l.e.d. read-outs, the direction to look for the activate button on the website homepage took a while to find since it wasn't there, during activation I was issued a number for security (from Wherify) which the webinterface won't accept AND calling for info during regular business hours was greeted with "leave a message and we'll get back to you"
There is an ad for jobs at Wherify on the homepage- perhaps they should complete their staffing before distributing a product that relies on customer service and client relationship.
I don't have confidence that quality control was run on the product I recieved nor do I have confidence that I will get the location service they promised considering their response so far. I mean if my kid disappears will I have to wait for an unknown period of time to do a phone location. I dont go to the zoo with my laptop and yes, there is a 911 emergency search prompt on the voicemail customer service line- but I have no confidence that Wherify wont just bump me to the police station.
No Confidence
We bought two, one for each of our toddler sons. One has been returned and exchanged two times and the other sometimes takes a charge and sometimes it doesn't. We finally gave up and we're trying to find some other product that would provide our kids with protection. Problems with Wherify are that the product apparently is very cheaply and inconsistently manufactured, making it impossible to latch on to the child's wrist (clasp has not worked on two of the replacements). The guts of the system are no better as we cannot get the other unit to take a battery charge.
