Customer Reviews of Welcome to the Real World
Actually, this album really is Mr. Mister's greatest hits "Welcome to the Real World" was one of the first CDs I ever bought and it was the album that established my "three song" rule for new groups. On this album Mr. Mister offers up three great songs in a row: "Is It Love," "Kyrie" and "Broken Wings." Ever since then if a new group does not have three songs I want to own on their big hit album, I would wait for their one or two good songs to come out in some collection along with other one hit wonders and the like. This is not to say there are only three good songs on this album, because take it down a level and you have "Black/White" and the title track. "Welcome to the Real World" is one of those albums where if you are going to have only one album by a group, in this case you might as well have this one rather than one of the many versions of the Mr. Mister greatest hits album. No matter what you pick up you get the same best five songs the group ever recorded so you might as well go for the integrity of the original album.
Solid pop rock album.
Welcome to the Real World is a nice and solid album from Mr. Mister. I've always had respect for these guys and their music. This album has been in my collection for a few years. The musical direction of this disc is pop rock. There's a nice mixture of guitar and keyboard playing. The keyboard playing adds a nice sparkle to the songs. There's a total of ten tracks. The musicianship, songwriting, and production are tight and sturdy. Richard Page has a good voice--his vocal delivery is very smooth. Steve Farris does an efficient job with the guitar duties, also. Every song on this album is good and listenable. Some of the ones that I like are "Don't Slow Down," "Broken Wings," and "Run to Her." I still consider "Broken Wings" to be a very impressive and well-written song after all of these years. I remember it being played on the radio incessantly many years ago. It's atmospheric and moves at a nice pace. "Run to Her" also happens to be a good ballad. Welcome to the Real World is a good and melodious piece of music. Worth a listen.
