accomplished the task I was able to use this tool to successfully shorten my wife's watchband. As with most things the first time takes the longest to get it right. Read the instructions first and make sure the tool pin squarely contacts the watchband pin only, does not overlap onto the band itself. Push through only enough to get a hold of it with pliers to completely pull it out (do not try to use tool to entirely push pin out all the way). Make sure to note which way pin travels; it is usually marked on the underside of watchband with an arrow. Also note which end of the pin comes out first; that is the end that goes in first. The pin is usually rounded on the side that goes in first and/or it is marked to differentiate the two ends. This isn't the best tool for this job but it is cheap and works if you are careful. There are no extra pins supplied but if the pin on the tools bends slightly you can usually straighten it out. The watchband can also "pull out" the tool pin from time to time, but you can push it back into the plastic holder of the tool for use again. Again, it is a cheap tool (the shipping cost about the same as the tool itself) but now I'm an expert with it after needing 15-20 minutes to remove two links from each side of the watchband. Now I expect I could accomplish subsequent similar tasks in 5 minutes using the same tool.

CHEAP TOOL....
I have brought several link removers from this seller and have been very disappointed. All this pins have broke. This is the worst one yet! My husband collects watches and loves tool gagets. Next time, I will buy a quality tool and will pay a little more for a better made link remover.
