We registered for this vaporizer and received it at our baby shower. When we got home my husband took it out of the box and attempted to open the child-proof top and couldn't. I said well read the directions, maybe you're doing something wrong. He did and tried again, after about 3 minutes he finally succeeded in opening the top. Then I tried to take it off and it took me 5 minutes. I told my husband that I wasn't going to go through this everytime I needed to fill the vaporizer. So we returned it. I can't believe they make the top that child-proof. I would think it might be more of a danger to a child if he or she tries to take the top off. Besides I wouldn't want a child to be able to reach it with the hot steam it puts off.
We bought another item similar to this one, but we really like it. It is also made by Evenflo, but it is called a warm-mist humidifier and has the medicine cup in it too. It is a lot easier to use and it works great. We purchased this item at a Babies R Us store.
Note: I never tried to use the vaporizer, because I decided that I didn't want to mess with trying to get the child-proof top off.

Great item to have for your whole family- works wonders
We got this warm mist vaporizer for a shower gift 3 & 1/2 yrs ago when i was pregnant with my son. We have used it ever since then, for the entire family. Now that we are expecting our 2nd child next month- it is once again on my registry. I know that i will have 2 sick kids at some point and each one will benefit from having their own. I use it all the time when i am stuffy- and i love adding the VICKS VAPO STEAM to the water. My only caution I must mention is to put it up high once your child is mobile. I made the mistake of leaving it on a low table and when my son was 13 months old the steam scalded his hand and he had a nasty burn. You only make that mistake once- so be careful. My only real complaint is that I find it hard to clean thoroughly. I was upset with this for a while because it would not produce enough steam after several usages. Until I realized that i needed to CLEAN it- once i ran hot water through the top of the unit for about 5 or so minutes all the hard water deposits etc (brown flaky pieces) would come out and the unit worked great again. Read the directions- it talks all about hard water, etc and what to do. I do wish it had a drain hole or something on the side or bottom to get all the water out but if you shake it hard enough and then wipe it with a cloth it does the job fine. For the price- hey you can't go wrong. Made many nights bearable with a sick kid for sure and that is worth a lot more than the price of this item!

Not bad for the money
We got this at our shower and I just stored it in our closet until my husband got a terrible cold. He was having a horrible time tring to sleep at night because of all of the congestion. Our doctor suggested using a warm mist vaporizer, so we broke this one out. It was easy to use and produced a good amount of vapor, yet it was very quite. He slept better the first night we used it. By morning the congestion was breaking up and we were able to pack it back up in just a couple of days. It is also pretty easy to clean. All in all, it's inexpensive and serves it's purpose with very little hassle or effort.
