Customer Reviews of Vulture Street
Was expecting a little more from them. Powderfinger's new album Vulture Street showcases a slightly new direction for the band, one that favours a more rock for rock's sake approach - which should come as no surprise with an opening track entitled 'Rockin' Rocks'. And rock they do, much of this material makes for good, solid listening. My one reservation is that in the process of loosening up and rocking out, I believe they've lost some of their more melodic sensibilities. What made Oddysey Number Five such a superb album - great choruses, hooks and melodies marks Vulture Street out as being only OK. The songs just aren't as addictive this time around, still, 'Roll Right By You' is an excellent example of what Powderfinger can achieve when they hit top gear. All in all, this is still worth a listen, but if you're new to this band I'd recommend the albums Oddysey Number Five and Internationalist.
I have been converted
For a long time i hated Powderfinger. I hated them without listening to any of their albums. What a wise chap i was. So Vulture Street for me was the first 'finger CD i had listened too and i have to say along with Jeff Buckleys Grace this is my favourite album of all time.
4 of the first 5 songs on the album are singles, all of them worthy of being number one. Seriously. This album rocks and rocks hard with tracks like Rockin' Rocks, (Baby) I've got you on my mind and Since You've Been Gone the early stand outs. Sunsets is without a doubt the song of the summer, its feel good lyrics coupled with some seriously wicked riffs make it enjoyable from start to finish.
Pockets displays the full range of Bernard Fannings' songwriting skills while the closer, A Song Called Everything remains for me the stand out track.
This is a great rock album free of all the commercialised mumbo jumbo that usually comes with the anticipation of an album.
Don't be a doubter or a hater of this band like i was. Get it and get it now.
"Liitle pockets of air in the atmosphere make it easier to breathe so farewell to unpleasant scenes"
- pockets.
Be nice
This album is getting a lot of critisism for not being 'hard; enough. Powder finger were never meant to be heavy rock! They're more alternative rock than anything else so if you're into heavy stuff, layoff and be nice. This album is more rock than Odessy no.5 but i still prefer Odessy no.5
