In a matter of minutes, your Vonage DigitalVoice phone can be up and running, and you can be making and receiving calls over your broadband connection to and from your friends, business associates, and faraway relatives. It's easy: just plug the included phone adapter into your high-speed Internet connection and plug your telephone into the adapter.
Enjoy the conveniences of a standard telephone service with none of the hassles. With Vonage DigitalVoice, you can talk all you want to anywhere in the country for one flat monthly subscription fee. Plus, you can make international calls at a low per-minute rate. Another bonus is that a U.S. call to Canada is treated like a domestic long distance call rather than an international one. Vonage also supports short-form emergency 911 services, where available.
Unlike other Internet telephone service providers, Vonage does not require access numbers, account numbers, or PINs to make a simple phone call. Instead, you just dial your party's phone number on an ordinary telephone keypad. Also, if you purchase DigitalVoice from Amazon.com, the box includes a special URL that lets you register for service without a setup fee, plus you get two months of free calling. Switching your current local phone service to Vonage is a snap. You can even choose any area code you want, subject to availability.

Customer Reviews of Vonage DigitalVoice Service
The Worst Company I've Ever Dealt With I make a point of posting a scathing review of Vonage whenever the opportunity presents itself. <

>Like many others, I wasted a great deal of time trying to get the service to work, and when after I cancelled, less than a week after ordering the service, they kept on billing me, and then tried to stick me with a cancellation fee, even though I had an email from them saying they had cancelled the service within the 30 day trial period. At this point, I have nearly $200 of charges on my VISA for a service I used for about 3 hours! <

>To the Vonage apologists who say bad connections aren't Vonage's fault, I say that a company that deals in this type of product should have a liberal cancellation policy. It seems they're using cancellation fees and unauthorized billing to unsatisfied customers to keep rates low for those with no problems. Any company can deal with the happy customer; it's how it reacts to solve the problems of the dissatisfied that gives them a good reputation. By this criterion, Vonage fails miserably. <

>I'll be celebrating the day this company goes out of business. They certainly deserve it.
terrible quality of service, undisclosed termination fee
I bought the phone/router combination in June 2006 from Compusa. The purchase included several rebates and opening of Vonage Service. CompUsa did not disclose termination fee of $39.99 that Vonage applies to terminations within first 12 months. Most VOIP providers do not require any termination fees for retail equipment/service purchases only for direct purchases.

>Quality of service was terrible, as a matter of fact the service is down now as I'm writing this. They try to keep you as long as possible to show high number of subscribers since they went public recently.

>But with this quality/cost ratio, the'll not survive. You can get Skype or other cheap VOIP services with better quality.
More like negative 10000 stars --
There needs to be a option for zero stars or negative stars. I signed up for a free month trail of this service. Underline trial and no strings attached, if I wasnt completely satisfied with their service as compared to other phone services I was supposed to be able to call and cancel. No further obligations. I called to cancel this service within that free month because we just did not like the product, it was not for us. We got way to much feedback on our phone lines. Much to my disbelief their lack of customer service rep after at least six times telling her I wanted the service canceled was still refusing to cancel the account assuring me I was going to love it and that she would have someone from technical support call me. She refused to cancel my service and in a few days sure enough they billed me for my first month even After I told them I did not want to keep their service for even one more second. I had to cancel my credit card so that they could not keep taking the charges out and I have disputed this charge with my bank. I called on a weekend and got a lady who couldnt help me turn the service off. I am supposing she could handle only sales. I called back during the week several times only to be on hold for an hour and a half and more, after choosing the option to cancel the service. While I had the cell phone on hold I used the line from the new phone company that weve went with to call again choosing a different option and they answered the phone within three mins for who they thought was a customer not wanting to cancel, but of course that man also would not be able to help me. I finally got someone to talk to me after they started calling me because the card number from my canceled credit card wouldnt work for payment. All said and done I spent 6 hours plus on the phone to get ahold of someone who still wanted to do whatever they could to keep me as a customer even after I said NO im not interested in very clear language. Talk about high pressure and a total disregard for any kind of ethical standards of doing business. It took close to two months to get them to turn this service off and in the end they dont believe they owe me a refund for the money they took out of my account. After I had called to cancel this phone service. After I had in very clear language called and told them to cancel this account they still took money out of my account, I just still cant believe it. Then they had the nerve to tell me I owed them for a cancellation fee because I did not stay with them for 12 months, when it was very clear that when I signed up it was for a 30 day free trial. (You did have to pay the shipping fee for the unit that you hook up to your computer). Its my opinion that the money saved isnt worth it if the company your doing business with is so completely dishonest in the way they deal with any their customers. I would never recommend using them, pay the extra 10 to 20 dollars a month and stick with some other company. Or find a different VOIP company. I hope everyone whos had trouble with this business takes it one step further -- call the FCC (Vonage isnt regulated yet but the FCC was more then happy to take the complaint for future reference and they will still file the complaint and expect a answer) -BBB -- your local news -- CNN--your lawyer-- put a review on every sight were people can voice their expericences with Vonage untill they understand its not ethical to treat their customers the way they do and they either do something to change their practices or they go out of business because of it..
