Customer Reviews of Virtuoso Violinist
Quite the Opposite of Szeryng It has been years since I listened to Mr Perlman. I still own some of his records, alongside with Mutter's. But I don't go to them as often these days (despite their beautiful sound). The same with Elman or even Milstein. Instead, I am more attracted to Grumiaux, to Adolf Busch, Taschner, Kreisler and Morini, Schneiderhan..., Thibaud and Menuhin occasionally and above all, Szeryng. Recently I have found Repin most enchanting.
It struck me that Szeryng and Mr Perlman are miles apart, Szeryng had got something that Mr Perlman lacks: classical lyricism. Mr Perlman, like Oistrakh, started playing the violin each on his own, each make a path for himself just like Huberman or Godowsky on the piano. Perhaps, one day someone should try and make a comparison between Mr Perlman and Midori, Kenedy and Sarah Cheng to see how their common preparer Delay had made out of them. Anyway, in Szeryng we see a great tradition starting from Joachim and then Carl Flesch... Perhaps it is a matter of taste after all, as violin is so expressive that it tells you so much, almost everything in just the first few phrases...
The sound of this DVD is nice, the command is so good and the rhythm and the sound is so unique and his bowing is absolutely well-rounded and powerful. There is no lack of drama in Mr Perlamn's playing, he is nearly as good as Ida Haendel. For his cammand, he is not too far away from Oistrakh. But for all the emotional charge Mr Perlman put into his playing, sometimes I miss Zukerman-- part of of the reasons was, I trust, because I have heard the latter in person.
Amazing!!!!!!!!!!
Perlman is an amazing violinist and this work appears like sound of angels for ours ears. Fantastic.
