Customer Reviews of Venetian Baby Chest - Cherry
Sweet Suite We purchased this chest, the crib and the combo changing table/chest of drawers in April 2003, when Alex was 3 months old. It was the only bedroom suite we found, in any price range low to high, whose cherry finish wasn't that awful reddish purple most manufacturer's call "cherry".
The name "vintage cherry" means what it says--the furniture seems antique or vintage, while still looking new and "today".
This chest is beautifully made, has appealing vintage styling, is durable, easy to put together (minimal assembly required for the chests--putting on drawer knobs and the curved backpiece at the top) and, given that this will be his until he's 3 or so, when we make room for another little sweetie, it's perfect to use from newborn to toddler.
Crib chest facts: 5 spacious drawers with stops and sliders, real wood drawer knobs; perfect for your nursery lamp or other precious/breakable items you want to keep up high and out of baby's reach.
You can purchase hardware (actually plastic strap and hook pieces) to secure this chest to the wall, to prevent it from being pulled down or tipping. We've not had that happen, it is not likely to, either, but we're getting the hardware anyway. I would recommend this to anyone with tall or heavy furniture pieces, and not just for furniture in the nursery.
Crib facts: 3-height adjustable mattress positioning, a "hands free" drop side, plastic teether rail included, and rolling casters with a locking position for the legs.
A conversion kit is available from BRU to convert the crib to a toddler bed. That's our next purchase, as Alex is getting to the stage where he's trying to climb out.
I purchased underbed storage baskets on wheels (look for these at Ikea and elsewhere) and they fit side by side underneath the crib, perfect for outgrown clothes, extra bedding etc. I got a wicker hamper with a liner that looks great with the baskets, a nursery lamp and his room was done.
Combo Unit facts: spacious top for use with your changing pad; extra space leftover on top for baskets full of wipes, lotions and potions, extra dipes, etc. I've spilled stuff on the top and used a wet baby wipe to wipe it up and everything was fine. Has 3 spacious drawers with gliders and stops, real wood knobs. Door opens to shelves for books, extra baby stuff. I know some people who've left out the shelf and used this space for their diaper genie!
Expensive? Yes. But worth it.
Everyone who sees it says "oh, how cute" or "I wish I would've gotten this". It's classic, classy and cute, all at the same time.
Pricey but beautiful
We bought this and the combo unit for our daughter's bedroom. They are absolutely beautiful! And made/constructed very well. I was impressed with not only the quality of the construction but also the finish of the wood. We plan on our daughter using this furniture for many years! not just as a baby.
