Customer Reviews of Vegas Vacation (Full Screen Edition)
Not A Bad Movie By Any Means Ok, so it may lack the punch of the other films, and it may seem to be repetitive, but Vegas Vacation is still a hilarious film. Just like the previous films, there's a numerous amount of hilarious scenes that are very memorable. And as for the critical reviewer who mocks the "dam/damn" puns, he can jump off a damn dam, because it was a damn funny scene at that dam. ...You'd enjoy that part if you saw it. Anyway, Chevy Chase and Beverley D'Angelo are back on another vacation, this time to Las Vegas. Once again, anything and everything happens to the family and you can't help but enjoy laughing at it. From the satirical look at gambling and casinos, to the stupid antics of Randy Quaid, you can't help but like this film. It may not be as good as the other films, but it is still very well done.
It's not the original, but the formula still works
Maybe I have a bias because I live and work in Las Vegas (vacationed here 5 times in 6 years before making the final move), but this Vacation movie does grow on you. A lot of the cheap shots they take at Vegas itself---i.e., the scortching weather, the exotic dancer business catering to young bimbos, the aggrandizing and self-indulgence of one Mr. Las Vegas himself, Wayne Newton---are funny sometimes because there is a little bit of truth to the zingers.
Outside of the Vegas jokes, the Griswold clan is funny on its own. Led by the slapsticking Clarke Griswold (Chevy Chase), the family runs into spats of outrageous luck, and outrageous nonsense. They really should be the poster-child family for Las Vegas, because those dual qualities mirror the qualities of this unique American city.
Beverly D'Angelo, playing Ellen Griswold, only seems to become more attractive. There's a clever cameo by the supermodel, (Christie Brinkley) who had her debut in the first Vacation movie, and it lets the audience know just how much time has passed since the film series began.
Chevy Chase is predictable in his role as the well-meaning, and often clumsy father who only wants to give his family the perfect vacation experience. For Chase fans, this is the kind of movie you have come to expect from him (outside of those two Fletch efforts), and you will not be disappointed.
I would buy this DVD and add it to my Vacation collection. It may not be as good as the first, but it is certainly better than the 2nd, and probably just a little less laugh-out-loud funny than the third, so-called Christmas Vacation.
Enjoy!
ALWAYS FUNNY
I could watch this 100 times and never get bored of it. I have never seen any of the other Vacation movies but loved this one. It's hilarious from beginning to end. Anyone who is a fan of Chevy Chase will like this movie. It should have a 5 star rating overall.
