Customer Reviews of V for Victory: North Africa and the Global War
American troops take to field from North Africa to Burma America joins the war effort in the European Theater in Volume III of the "V for Victory" series, "North Africa and the Global War." Actually this 45-minute documentary covers American troops all around the globe as airmen from fields in England and Burma are joined by ground troops in North Africa. The story is told in the form of vintage newsreel stories, hosted by noted journalists Eric Sevareid and Edwin Newman. This particular volume underscores how difficult it was for the United States to actually get into the fight, once war had been declared against the Axis powers. These newsreels try to make the most out of the relative little this first wave of troops was able to accomplish. But "North Africa and the Global War" does give a sense for the early part of the war when there was not much to splash across the headlines until Patton arrives in North Africa and starts the Army on the long road to Berlin. This is the "boring" part of the war, and therefore pretty fascinating because it has been glossed over in much of the literature and Hollywood films.
