Customer Reviews of Up the Dose
Disappointing Skrape's debut "New Killer America" was a surprisingly solid debut album, but their follow up "Up the Dose" just screams the word generic almost the entire way through. While the band still has a heavy vibe with some killer grooves, most of the songs just have a feel to them like "I've heard this before, and heard it done better". I saw these guys live on the Extreme Steel tour a few years back, and I felt they had the energy; and judging by they're debut album, the potential to be the next Pantera, but with this lackluster release, I'm wondering when Skrape will show their true colors.
Skraped Up Again
Skrape are back after a two year hiatus with their second offering "Up The Dose". Myself being from Tampa with Skrape hailing from Orlando i follow these guys pretty closely. This picks up where NKA left off in 2001. The boys seem to have injected a little more melody into certain songs (summer song etc..). This is good, but in a way it also seems a little contrived seeing where Skrapes first album came from. Skrape still excel in songs like up the dose, no respect, and My Life. The head banging songs are without a doubt are the best songs on this CD. I still dont but the whole Nu-Metal label. How come anything that is heavy and rock oriented has to be branded Nu-Metal? To me Skrape is a good example of a straight forward heavy metal/melodic band. If they dont get dropped by RCA for some stupid reason i can see these guys developing a fan base as a hard rocking, live show band. Up The Dose like NKA is a CD you pop in when the sun is out and the weather is clear and you wanna roll down your windows and bump something that gets your blood going and your head banging.
surprisingly decent
skrape is one of those bands that just didn't get noticed on the slimming nu metal radar but their material improved from their last cd drastically.i enjoy billy's voice-not his screams.will's addition of double bass is nice as well.the first five cuts are outstanding, with "up the dose" and the melodic "in the end" being my two favorite tracks on the cd.the single "stand up" doesn't give a good representation of this whole cd, as it is heavier than the aforementioned track.if you have the extra money, go for it.not bad at all.for fans of switched,v shape mind, and sloth.
