Customer Reviews of Ultimo Cuple
BMG ASSAULTS A LIVING LEGEND HOORAY for Mr. Mark Martinez, whoever he happens to be! His review is right on target. A million and one curses to BMG US Latin for releasing such a mess and for trampling on the legendary Montiel, who is still very much alive and active. Pity she has to endure the disrespect of her record label.
I second Mr. Martinez in demanding that BMG Us Latin promptly recall this product and give us a new pressing of EL ULTIMO CUPLE immediately. And yes, we want the works! We want 20-Bit remastering, and we definitely want the London/Decca cover with the yellow dress.
It's time BMG US Latin responded to consumer demand and give the hispanic population their money's worth. While they do wonders with their anglo catalog (look what they've done with Elvis) they consistently handle their hispanic branch as if it were their foster child.
We want BMG to recall this atrocity and also demand that they do the same with their LIBERTAD LAMARQUE product. We want Miss Montiel and Miss Lamarque treated with the dignity that their status as living legends affords them.
BMG Latin does a poor job with "El Ultimo Cuple"
"El Ultimo Cuple" is one of Sarita Montiel's most famous recording. In fact, this is the record that made her an international singing sensation just as "El Ultimo Cuple", the movie, made her one of the world's biggest box office attractions back in 1957. Most of the songs in "El Ultimo Cuple" made it to the hit parades of Spain and all the countries in Latin America; at one point, five songs of this album was in the top ten at the same time, a historic feat only matched a few years later by The Beatles... You would think that BMG Latin would release this album,(for the first time on CD in the US!)with great care and professionalism... Not such a luck! BMG Latin's release of "El Ultimo Cuple" is a disgrace for the following reasons: a) No promotion whatsoever. Most people don't know is out.. b) The list of songs on the CD is totally screwed up. They failed to list two songs, "Clavelitos" and the instrumental "La Machicha". Instead they printed a title called "Los Inocentes" which does not exists on the CD. Consecuently they end up with 11 songs on the list, instead of the 12 that are included. In other words, the CD is complete but the list of contents is wrong. c)The photo of Miss Montiel on the cover IS NOT from "El Ultimo Cuple" (1957) but from the film "Esa Mujer" (1968)
It is really unfortunate that BMG Latin has treated this important release with such a carelesness. Sarita Montiel and "El Ultimo Cuple" deserve much better. I guess it would be too much to expect from BMG Latin to have released this CD in a 20-bit digital remastering with extensive liner notes and the whole first class treatment but at least they should have used a little tender care and professionalism by listing the contents correctly and using the original London records cover which was so popular internationally. My recommendation is that BMG Latin recalls this product, makes the necessary corrections and then re-release it with some publicity. I am sure it will pay off on sales... And now that we are in the subject, we would love to see more Sarita Montiel CDs in the inmediate future. BMG has the rights to the following: 1-SARA 2-Soundtrack from "VARIETES" 3-SARA HOY... 4-SARA MONTIEL "SARITISIMA" Note that I am ommiting "ANOCHE CON SARA" which BMG already released a few years back and which should NEVER be released again since it is Miss Montiel's worst album. The rest of Miss Montiel's discography is on EMI including the famous "LA VIOLETERA", "CARMEN LA DE RONDA", "BAILE CON S.M.", "BESOS DE FUEGO", "MI ULTIMO TANGO", "EL TANGO", "PECADO DE AMOR", "LA BELLA LOLA", "NOCHES DE CASABLANCA", "LA REINA DEL CHANTECLER", "SAMBA", "LA DAMA DE BEIRUT", "CANTA SARITA MONTIEL" and "ESA MUJER". The most recent Sarita Montiel (80's and 90's) recordings are the following: "PURISIMO SARA" (Polygram) "SARA DE CINE" (Sony) "SARA A FLOR DE PIEL" (No U.S.A.) "AMADOS MIOS" (No U.S.A.) I recommend that all Sarita Montiel fans start writing to the record companies mentioned so that they release all these excellent recordings.
La gran Sara
This was the film and record that really made Ms. Montiel a star. It started it all. I would love to get a cd of her "Mi Ultimo Tango". Her interpertation of these classic tangos was excellent. I agree "La Violetera" is a great recording.
