Customer Reviews of Ubuntu 6.06 LTS DVD (64-bit PC Edition) (Jewel Case)
Easy to use Linux operating system - Ubuntu I have been using XP and Linux off and on for the past few years and up until I tried Ubuntu/Kubuntu I had to reboot almost every time I used the computer in order to do everything that I needed to do. Whether it was ripping a CD, burning CD's, DVD's, playing music, sharing files, writing documents for work or editing a presentation, there was always something that my current version of Linux could not do. I tried slackware, mandrake, red hat, mepix, knoppix and many other mainstream distributions, but none could meet my needs fully. <

>Enter Ubuntu. I installed Kubuntu on the recommendation of a friend and from the start, found it to be much more user friendly than all previous disto's. I have thoroughly enjoyed the applications that come with this fully loaded distribution including open office, firefox as well as the freely available, easy to install packages that are maintained by the good folks at Canonical. I am currently running a fully customized distibution of kubuntu with the option to boot to Ubuntu or Xubuntu window managers for increased flexibility. I have also installed a number of aftermarket applications including the GIMP, a full featured open source alternative to Photoshop. <

>In summary, Ubuntu is the first mainstream Linux distribution that I have run that has allowed me to fully abandon windows and finally be able to fill my computer with free (as in freedom) software that meet my every computing need (and then some!).
