Are you watching Truman tonight?
I watched this film with great anticipation. I have long awaited a chance to see Jim Carrey in a serious role. I have always known he had the potential. It was worth the wait. His performance in "The Truman Show" was spectacular. Hopefully this is only the beginning of movies showcasing his other side. I was however very disappointed with the film and the way it was written. This film had incredible potential. The theme is so refreshing and original. My high hopes were dashed when I watched it. It could have been one of the greatest films of all time had it been given a little more creativity and effect. With that in mind, I do recommend watching it. Don't expect it to be everything it is billed to be, It is not. Way over rated, giving the viewer extremely high expectations. It simply doesn't deliver what it claims. It is however a good film and worth watching. Great acting, casting, visuals and a good plot. Three stars and one thumb up. (the other thumb down).

Genius, Creepy and Ahead of it's time
In retrospect this movie was ahead of it's time, loong before "Reality" shows were a staple of regular TV programming. This movie was a preview of where things could go right or wrong for entertainment.

FUNNY AND WITTY AT THE SAME TIME
The world of Truman Burbank [Jim Carrey] is one long-running soap opera: only he's not aware of it. What a great premise for a movie. This is one of the best films of Jim Carrey's career, and I enjoyed every minute of it. In this black-comedy, also starring [Ed Harris] as Christof, the God-like creator of Truman Burbank's universe, director Peter Weir did a terrific job in with the character development of all the actors: each playing the right characters in the right roles. I watched this film with my wife at the theatre and was very, very impressed with not only the film, but the acting of Jim Carrey. <

>The film gives the viewer a great portrayal of humanity. Christof, the creator of the make believe show which Truman inhabits, is the 'God' who controls all of Truman Burbank's actions throught script writing and actors. His wife, best friend, and mother are mere actors. Only Truman is the real deal. Only he does not know it. Eventually there emerges an individual who cannot be controlled. And although events have been introduced into his life to keep him happy, and a permanent resident in the make believe world of Seahaven, the human will struggles to assert itself. Truman is not a puppet on the string for Christof to control. <

Moreover, you can't help rooting for Truman to break free of his captivity. No matter what odds are stacked up against him by Christof, Truman's will to break free will keep you rooting for him. This is a really good film. And I would recommend it to everyone. A must see!
