Customer Reviews of Trimble Adventure Planner with Topographical, Street and Aerial Maps of the USA
Very Cool I started using this product with my garmin, and it was decent, the one really cool thing about it was that I could upload photos after my trip and then share the trip online. Sharing trips online is awesome because I can email them to my friends... I almost didn't buy this product because of the a bad review on this site, but decided to give it a try anyway, and I'm glad I did. After playing with it for a while I bought a nextel phone, and it was even better... I could send trips, routes, points, maps, etc all to my phone overthe air... started leaving my garmin at home and doing it all with my cell phone. Really cool stuff... I would suggest after buying to go and get the latest version from their website... seems to get a little better each version, and you can upgrade for free!
Way cool
The maps on this product are so cool. I bought this with a Nextel i860 camera phone (which includes software for the phone), and it divides the screen up into a grid so I could select individual map tiles to send to the phone. The result: I could look at my phone and see myself walking on an aerial photo. When I was in an area around my neighborhood, I switched to street map by pressing one key on the phone.

>My friend had a Garmin, so I uploaded one of his trips into the Adventure Planner with a usb - serial cable. The points all appeared on the map flawlessly. Then we had fun uploading pictures from his trips at the correct locations. I noticed an option to "share trip" with others, but wasn't sure how. Then I figured out that the trimbleoutdoors.com website has everyone's shared trips online. We pulled up my friends trip and could see all the points and photos. We could even e-mail the trip to anyone.

>I had a similar display problem as another reviewer where the menu items are all cut off. To fix this I right clicked on my desktop | properties | settings | [Advanced] and changed the DPI setting to Normal Size (96 DPI). Not only did it fix the problem with the Adventure planner, some of my other programs looked better as well.

>It is a little slow with dial-up when getting maps. This is because all the maps are retrieved from the internet. The benefit is I don't have to go look for CD #9 when I pan around. Also, when maps are updated, I don't have to buy an upgrade. I have a cable modem, so the speed of the application is great.
I got rooked!
Don't buy this junky software. THe screen is terrible. Instead of the menu "Help" it has "Hel". Almost all of the labels are cut off. What does "VIE" mean? Read the description well. I did not. This is a web based service. Which means if you have dial up it will probably take you longer to plan your trip than to take it if you use this. I thought I was buying a program like Streets and Trips or or DeLorme Topo USA not some web based service. I think I'll uninstall this trash and give it to someone I don't like.
