Customer Reviews of Trend Micro Internet Security Pro 2008 3-User
Didn't get past install issues I downloaded and installed the Internet Security Pro product on my laptop and desktop system. Both are running XP. On the desktop, the install went fine. On the laptop, it was a nightmare. Customer support via email was ok - 24 hour turnaround, but basically was "remove & reinstall the product". <
> <
>The laptop was unable to boot successfully over 50% of the time (ie, blue screens, etc). When it did boot, I got app errors on things like Firefox that never appeared before. Including the Trend app as well. <
> <
>I removed everything I got from the startup programs in case there was a conflict. It got a little better, but still - tons of errors. <

>This can be a nightmare (and was, in my case). You install a piece of software that inserts itself into the boot process. It can be a real pain to remove (I tried safe mode, got authorization errors when I tried to uninstall). <
> <
>That said, it worked fine on my desktop. Same memory (1G). I'm not sure what's different. <
> <
>The virus quarantine process is confusing - it identified several HP programs as viruses - and quarantined them! And if I restored them, they were immediately identified and removed again. OK, I'm sure there's an option to override. But I restore something, I'm sorry -- it's dumb to remove it again 1 sec later. OK, so you uninstall - if you can't figure out how to restore the quarantined files -- they're history. Nice. <

>So I can't recommend this product at all. If you search for Trend and install problems, you'll see I wasn't alone (ie, PC magazine review, for example). A huge goof on their part - I can't imagine a better way to kill product sales with an eval that makes your system boot unreliably. And there are no diagnostics to figure out why. <

>Not sure I'd ever try Trend products again. <

Danger, Danger Will Robinson!
Trend Micro Internet Security Pro (2008 Edition, Including Builds 16.0, 16.05, and 16.1) is dangerous! Potential Buyers: Beware!

>I'd been a Norton Internet Security user for years, and while it was slow, I had few problems with it conflicting other software. When I saw the high ratings for Trend Micro in Consumer Reports, I thought I'd give it a try rather than upgrade to Norton IS 2008.

>I bought Trend Micro Internet Security Pro from Amazon, and installed it from the CD-ROM the day it arrived. Instantly, my keyboard stoped functioning, followed by cryptic warnings that the master controller for everything Trend Micro had encountered an error. I also noted that my Mozy Home Backup quit working too.

>Shutting off the Trend Micro Transaction Protector seemed to solve the keyboarding problem (that took about 4 reboots to figure out). The other errors kept coming.

>Trend Micro got back to me fast, with worthless advice. First, I was to un-install and then re-install from the original CD-ROM. That did not work. Next, I was to un-install and then download and install an "updated" version (16.0) from a link provided by TM Help. That did not work. I replied that the problem was still there, sent screen captures of all the error popups, and the next TM Help person told me I'd have to do it all again! I'm going back to Norton Internet Security!
Worthless
I installed this product on a PC infected with the MIRAR virus. I ran a full system scan (7+ hours) and the virus scanner failed to remove the virus. What a waste of time and money.
