LCD screen problems Have had the Toshiba A75-209 for less than a year. No problems until 2 days ago. The screen, for some reason stayed dark. Something about a brightness diode or something like that. I was also getting a static shock which would lock up the computer also. The repair center said that was a grounding problem. All covered under warranty. WHATEVER YOU DO, GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM TOSHIBA. Just to look at it would cost $99.00 plus labor and parts if not under warranty. I will probably get and extended warranty before the 1 yr. expires.
Toshiba, not necessarily this model
Bought the A75-S206 for my niece in July of 2004. Have never bought an extended warranty for anything in my life but did for this one thinking that the extended warranty would see my niece through college. The troubles started soon afterwards. The computer would reboot for no reason whatsoever. My niece, without me knowing about it, contacted technical support more than once and was put through some useless paces and told that there was no problem with the computer. In July of this year my niece was visiting me and mentioned the problems she was having with the computer. Through process of elimination, I diagnosed the problem to be related to use of USB ports. If one was not being used the computer would stay alive for days but within hours of a USB device being plugged would revert to the reboots. I contacted the tech support, refused to go through the useless paces and told them what the problem was, received a box to ship the product to the repair depot and the computer arrived with a new mother board. It worked fine for 2 months and the same problems started all over. My niece was told by the tech support that she should not use the computer while plugged in as that generates too much heat and fries the motherboard. Go figure, this "fix" for a computer with a battery that lasts around 1-½ hours of use, as it is really a desktop pretending to be a laptop.
PLEASE DONT BUY THIS OR ANY OTHER TOSHIBA LAPTOP
Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT BUY this or any other Toshiba laptop. I wonder if this can be called 'laptop' ! I think they should market this as Computer IC Engine. Trust me whenever I turn on this crap, fans start screaming and make more noise than even helicopter or plane. And then there are other POPULAR problems like 'static electricity', System hangs up suddenly, shuts down suddenly. Oh man ! I am so unlucky I bought Toshiba product. I feel I threw 1150 bucks in water. I learnt the hard way that I should NEVER NEVER buy a TOSHIBA product.
