Customer Reviews of To the Extreme
Be reasonable... I have the cassette from somtime around '93-'94, and it used to be my favorite thing to listen to. Now I listen to everything atleast once to be open minded, but Eminem is the WORST rapper of all time. Whether or not Vanilla Ice pirated his bass from Queen doesn't matter. All that matters is what the music sounds like to the listener. If you like the sound, great, if you don't, well, who really cares either way? Now for somthing more closely related: Good album, 4 stars.
Let's Be Honest
Early 90's, I'll bet most of us were listening to this album. It's very easy to attack him now, but you don't think the same won't happen to the assembly-line MTV crap being put out today 14 years from now?
Another thing--there are entirely too many reviews here talking about Vanilla Ice dissing so and so or not respecting so and so when this happened. Unless I missed a book somewhere on lowlife history, the only people still concerned with any slights of the rap world from 14 years ago have either been gunned down or are probably upper-middle class white boys who wish desperately that they weren't. I await the response of the same informing me how "I jus don't know".
3 stars for nostalgia.
this deserves no stars
Vanilla Ice is just pathetic, he can't rap, he can't dance, and he does not have "a violent gangsta past"- the dude grew up in a middle class miami family- the dude's name is Rob Van Winkle for god's sake. Listening to him is almost as bad as listening to Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch. "Ice Ice Baby" is a total ripoff of "Under Pressure" by Queen and David Bowie. Some reviewer here said that Ice made up the bass line himself- Queen and David Bowie recorded it in 1981, Ice said he wrote the song when he was 16 on The Surreal Life- and Ice was 13 in 1981, which means he wrote it in 1984- haha. I dont know why Ice thought he was so tough and such a gangsta- I mean he was hung off of a 20th story balcony by his ankles by Suge Knight. Ice lost popularity because of two things- alternative rock (Jane's Addiction, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, Hole, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Nirvana, Soul Ayselum, Body Count, R.E.M.) and gangsta rap (Dr. Dre, Eazy-E, Ice Cube, Snoop Dogg, 2pac, The Notorious B.I.G., Puff Daddy, Jay-Z) Ice tried to go gangsta rap and now hez trying his hand at rap metal (Limp Bizkit, Rage Against The Machine, Linkin Park, Methods Of Mayhem, Tommy Lee, Kid Rock) with no success.
