Customer Reviews of Time to Move On
A Great Singer's Greatest Album Everyone should be introduced to Glenn Yarbrough through this album. It was his first solo effort (recorded in 1963) and arguably his best. Most people think of "Baby the Rain Must Fall" when they hear Glenn's name, but that song is totally commercial compared to some of the tracks on this one. "You Know My Name" is a perfect opening song for a collection and sets the stage for what is to come. The highest points for me are "If It Fits Your Fancy" and "Time to Move On", but there are no bad tracks to be found here. I've been a Yarbrough fan since I first heard this album in my college dorm in 1964. The opportunity to buy one of my all-time favorites on CD could not be passed up. This is beautiful music! Try it. I think you'll like it.
You know that it's time to move on, babe...
I may be in my early twenties, and I may love my MTV and my American Idol and all that, but I know good music when I hear it, and I LOVE Glenn Yarborough. His voice is beautiful, his song selection inspired, and this, "Time to Move On", is his best album. All the songs are under three minutes, but each one is a jewel. Here's a breakdown:
Track One: "You Know My Name", an upbeat and stormy song, opens the album. 4/5
Track Two: "Angel Cake and Wine" is a slow and sultry ballad. 4/5
Track Three: Light and pleasant, "The Honey Wind Blows" is typical of Yarborough's style. 4/5
Track Four: "If it Fits Your Fancy". Sweet and well-sung. 4/5
Track Five: A very good example of the 60's folk style, "The World I used to Know" is one of the strongest tracks on the album. 4/5
Track Six: "In This Wide World". Gorgeous song, brilliantly sung. Perfect. 5/5
Track Seven: My favorite song on the CD, "Time to Move On" is a song you carry with you and think of whenever change enters your life. Bravo Glenn! 5/5
Track Eight: Jaunty and playful, "San Francisco Bay Blues" is great fun. 4/5
Track Nine: "Sleep My Love". Tender ballad. 4/5
Track Ten: "Stella's Got a New Dress". How I love this song! My mom used to sing it to me when I was a little girl. Who could imagine a sight so fair/As Stella in her pretty new dress? 5/5
Track Eleven: "Diamonds of Dew". Another ballad with great guitar work. Also shows off Glenn's range. 4/5
Track Twelve: "Four Strong Winds". The last track, and a fitting end to a terrific album. 5/5
And there you have it. If you have never heard Yarborough's work before, I highly recommend buying this album. For fans, a greatest hits CD (he has several) is a good bet, but think about getting "Time to Move On" as well, as it is essential for understanding the 60's folk movement. Highly recommended!
