Customer Reviews of Time Takes Time
Certainly Worth Having Sure, this is worth getting if you like The Beatles or Ringo's solo work. But there is a greater appeal to this album. Like Roy Orbison's MYSTERY GIRL and Del Shannon's ROCK ON! (both of which involved Jeff Lynne, who appears here as well), TIME TAKES TIME masterfully blends the old and the new, producing a wonderful retro-contemporary sound. Unlike those albums, Ringo was still alive when this one came out!
"Weight of the World," a brilliant single with Beatles-esque guitar riffs and harmonies, is so strong that it could carry the album all on its own merit. Luckily, it doesn't have to. "Don't Go Where the Road Don't Go" and "Runaways" are tough, thought-provoking rockers, co-written by Ringo, and "In A Heartbeat" is a catchy and sweet ballad penned by Diane Warren. The rest of the songs are also clever and infectious, making this an utterly pleasant listening experience. Okay, so Ringo has never been a great singer, but his vocal delivery is still enjoyable here, and he gives us some good drumming, too. Think of this album as a lost treasure. Get it while you can!
Ringo's Masterpiece
Anyone who tells you that Ringo Starr's solo work isn't as strong as John, Paul or George, obviously hasn't heard TIME TAKES TIME. In fact, TIME TAKES TIME is in the upper echelon of solo Beatle Releases. This album works on many levels. Mostly, the songwriting is superb. Ringo co-wrote a few songs, and hired a batch of top notch songwriters (Roger Manning from JELLYFISH is one) to pen the others. WEIGHT OF THE WORLD is one of the best and catchiest songs on the CD. Other songs like DON'T GO WHERE THE ROAD DON'T GO, and AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, are among some of the best that Ringo has recorded. The production is brilliant, and Ringo is in great voice as well. The most amazing thing about this CD is that it has held up quite well. After repeated listens, it still sounds fresh and distinctive. This is an album full of melodic and disparate songs. The many stylings (pop, rock, country) work very well. Even though this CD didn't make the Billboard album charts, it is a favorite with critics and is an ESSENTIAL addition to any CD collection.
One of Ringo's best!
Ringo Starr is definitely just as much of a legend as his Beatle compadres, and this album proves it. WEIGHT OF THE WORLD is by far the best song Ringo has done since PHOTOGRAPH and IT DON'T COME EASY, but other songs are great as well. Listen to I DON'T BELIEVE YOU and you feel you are listening to the Beatles all over again. Or try IN A HEARTBEAT and you imagine the Beach Boys. DON'T GO WHERE THE ROAD DON'T GO is definitive ELO. Does this mean Ringo is not original? Not at all, it proves Ringo can definitely "get by with a little help from his friends". If you don't have it, BUY IT!!
