Customer Reviews of Timber Tongue [EP]
Recommended for fans of Eno, Glass, Siouxsie. Dax is cool! Danielle Dax certainly has a unique talent for creating strange and wonderful soundscapes. On this effort she uses her fantastic voice only minimally on all but one of the tracks. But each track trips in its own way. 'Toygit' seems to be composed primarily of sounds emitted by whirrring toy motors and squeaks and squelchy belches of squeeze toys. Dax mechanically modifies her voice on 'E.V.I.L. T.' to give a dark talk which seems to throb within the head of a suffering sister. 'Timber Tongue' is a soaring techno rhythm instrumental, delightful ear candy reminiscent of Eno's Nerve Net. The pulsating bubbling current of 'Uru Eu Wau Wau' is my favorite track on this disc. It is an instrumental like the title track, but this one features some snippets of voice. I believe that Danielle Dax is a major talent who, unfortunately, receives little recognition for her work. Support this artist! Yah!
OK, you?re weird
There's nothing wrong with experimentation. But enough already. This 4-track EP is hard to listen to. The title track "Timber Tongue", which is a somewhat dancey instrumental piece, is the only one that might be worth listening to. The rest sound like regurgitated mix of voice synthesizers and oh-so-experimental instruments. There is no reason to buy this unless you must own everything Danielle has put on disc.
