Customer Reviews of Tim
greatest album of the eighties if not of all time tim is a classic album, and one of the few albums to survive the eighties. it ranks up their with the joshua tree and metallica's master of puppets as the greatest albums of the 80's. it was ranked #4 by alternative press's greatest albums from 1985-1995 list. tim is the replacements best, most consistent album, and doesn't have a bad song on it. tim has something on it for everyone from the power pop of "dose of thunder" and "lay it down clown" to the rockabilly of "i'll buy" and "waitress in the sky" to the rock anthems "bastards of young" and "left of the dial" to straight out rock tracks "hold my life and "little mascara." westerberg also writes the best ballads he ever wrote with "swinging party" and "here comes a regular." with "bastards of young," westerberg writes the perfect generation x anthem. when anyone mentions the replacements, most people usually say "how did they not make it big and sell albums." but tim influenced a generation of musicians from nirvana to the goo goo dolls, and their album sales are a testament to the greatness and undeniable influence of the replacements, perhaps the greatest band of the '80's.
The best Rolling Stones album of the eighties
Pop Kulcher Review: Second only to R.E.M. as the best American rock band of the '80's, the Replacements left a legacy of great albums. While their much-heralded Let It Be has some of their finest moments, from the yearning "Unsatisfied" to the poppy "I Will Dare," my loyalty is with the follow-up, Tim, which features some of the best songwriting this side of Dylan and the Beatles. "Bastards of Young" and "Little Mascara" are remarkably moving slacker-generation anthems; "Left of the Dial" is the most heartfelt ode to college radio you'll ever hear; and ballads like "Swinging Party" foreshadow some of the amazing rock ballads songwriter Paul Westerberg would come up with on later records. While the band's punk roots are still evident, this album owes more to the Rolling Stones than to the Sex Pistols, which may be why Tim has such a timeless quality to it.
Here comes a un-regular!
the classic "Tim" album, released in October 1985. Remember what you were doing way back there?? me neither. Being a follow up to the classic 'five-star' 1984 album "Let It Be". which is one of the greatest albums of the 1980s. "Tim" being a great follow-up. definitely doesn't conquer or overcome "Let It Be", but Tim is still one of the greatest 'mats album. in my opinion, i really think Let It Be is their greatest album, but other people tend to disagree. thats when you now you talking about a great band. with a lot of "great" albums. some people may prefer Let It Be, Tim, Please to Meet Me.... or their latter albums released in the early/later 1990s. but whatever, who cares?? the talk is about Tim, and Tim is simply a great album.
the replacements being one of the greatest garage punk-rock bands of the '80s, you can expect a lot from each and every one of their albums. they usually make short punk songs but ending the album with the best song on the whole record. they don't just do this with Tim (Please to Meet Me, "Can't Hardly Wait"). the last track on Tim being, "Heres comes a regular". amazing lyrics and great guitar (which is also the last time you'll here this beautiful guitar, who died soon after "Tim"). a beautiful song leaving a perfect ending at the forty minute mark. and what a amazing forty minutes it is.
