Customer Reviews of Thunderheart
A top-line movie. I found Thunderheart to be a very touching movie, with an excellent cast. People who are part Indian, like myself, will find much to relate to. The settings, in themselves, tell a story that is only too true about Indian life in these times. It is humorous too, with a sly tongue-in-cheek humor that will appeal to many people. I have viewed this picture many times and get something new out of it constantly. Worth evey penny, and inexpensive to boot. People who like this one should also buy "Last of the Dogmen". Well cast also, and timely, with the thought that this might really happen. These are movies you will KEEP.
An Excellent Film, And A Terrific Cast!
I was pleasantly surprised when I first viewed this film. I was not expecting it to be as good as it was. An FBI agent, Ray (Val Kilmer) with a Native American background is sent into the Oglala Sioux reservation to investigate a murder. He is sent in by the agency due to his Sioux background. However, he does not show interest in either the Sioux culture, or the inhabitants of the reservation. His partner is a well-known veteran of the FBI (Sam Shepard). Shepard does an excellent acting performance as a hardened field agent who has been in the area for quite a number of years. Not to mention he has a solid and well-known reputation within the FBI. However, there is more to Ray's partner than he realizes: But Ray (Kilmer) will soon find out.

>The film is further enhanced by the acting of (Graham Greene), whose portrayal of a saavy and intelligent Native American police officer in charge of enforcing the laws of the U.S., on the reservation, are met with hostility by both the members of the tribal council, and the FBI agents in the field itself. The film delves into [to some degree] with events that occured in the 1970's, on various reservations in the USA. Remember A.I.M? [American Indian Movement] Moreover, the film has an underlying plot as to the nature and reasons behind the murder of the Sioux whose death is being investigated by the FBI. Is the FBI behind it? Was it A.I.M.? And why is the tribal council trying to sell its land to developers? These questions are answered in the film. Highly recommended.
Oh Val-
This is a classic movie for anyone who likes the corny F.B.I. jokes or others about native americans. Actually a pretty good detective type story.
