Big and Balanced
This is a beautifully shot and well done video on the Three Gorges Dam. It presents both compelling arguments for the construction of the dam, and the dam's opponents arguments as well. But its real strength is capturing the scale of the project. Not just the dam itself, but the relocations and new construction of whole cities involved. I showed it to a class of 12th graders as part of their History of China class and they found it compelling.

Three Gorges -- Four Stars
I bought it as a Christmas gift for my father, who is a big student and admirer of the Hoover dam, and he liked this video. And after Christmas, I brought the video home an enjoyed it myself.

First and foremost is the wonderful narration by Jodie Foster. The construction sequences were impressive too, and included interviews with workers, crane operators, and the project leader himself. It's a really enormous project, that's for sure!

But what really piqued my interest was the impact the dam has on their society and culture. It stands to revolutionize an entire part of their country with jobs and power, yet millions of people -- and several entire cities -- need to be moved to do so.

The Three Gorges dam project can almost be viewed as a metaphor for the great changes going on in their society.

Three Gorges is an interesting movie, and worth the purchase price, in my opinion.
