Customer Reviews of Threads of Fate
Short and sweet I played this game right after finishing Final Fantasy IV (by the Japanese numbering system)--and I don't know if it was the fact that it was a much-needed change of pace or what, but I thoroughly enjoyed Threads of Fate. It's cute, easy, and light-hearted--kind of like the book you pick up to read at the beach. If you're sick of playing serious games or just need a break in general, it's well worth it. <

>Gameplay is simple and easy to use. As Rue, you can change into different types of monsters; as Mint, you master different types of magic. There is no true "leveling" system--HP and MP can be earned in several different ways, but mostly through being hit and using magic. Monsters are generally easy to beat (which is nice, since battles are all in real-time), and though bosses sometimes can be a challenge, a coin system allows you to pick up immediately at the boss fight again if you get defeated. <

>I had only a few problems with the game: 1) there are a few required minigames that get incredibly obnoxious incredibly fast, and 2) the storyline changes depending on the main character more than I anticipated. I played Rue first (I saved Mint because I figured I'd enjoy using her more--best for last and all that) and was sorely disappointed when Mint's story didn't even parallel how she acts in Rue's storyline. The game's still worthwhile, and the replay value's pretty high... but don't expect all plot points to be identical regardless of the character you control.
I have had it since I was 9 and still think it's game kool
im 14 and still playing this game it starts with a chioce between rue and mint. Mints gets to use magic and her story line is funnier because she is a spoided, lazy, brat, and a princesses and got kick out of her kingdom so now she is trying to achive world domination by finding Aeons relic. but Rue is my favorite person because he can transeform into his enemys, he has a stronger story line and he gets to go to the the mountin (which is wicked fun). its not all that expensive ether.
Welcome back from 2003 Year of the Replay
Well, it's been two years since I bought this game and I finally got around to playing it. Threads of Fate was one of Squaresofts 'trial games' from the Summer of Square in 2000. I say it's a trial game because Square rarely brings their RPG talents into the real-time action adventure arena. For fans of Brave Fencer Musashi this game is a must buy. It showcases a similar fighting system and one of the playable characters (Rue)is able to take on the traits of his recently defeated enemies. Whereas the other character (Mint) uses her skill in magic to fight the bad guys.
Unfortunately, there isn't much to this game. The challenge is very low and the only parts that can be considered hard fall into the "Time your jumps or else" annoyance category. My first playthrough only took me 7 hours and in that time I was able to find all the hidden items. However, the games saving grace is its humor and that you are able to play through the game using the 2 different characters.
While not one of Square's best games, I recommend this to someone looking for a quick little diversion, or even to the more amateur gamers out there.
