Customer Reviews of The face of battle: A study of Agincourt, Waterloo, and the Somme
One of the best books on warfare ever written In one of the most remarkable and memorable books on military history I have ever read, Mr. Keegan studies three major historic battles focusing on the experience of warfare for the average soldier. His descriptions of the course of the three engagements are extremely clear and enlightening, but he takes the book much further describing the experience of combat in each historic context, exploring the impact of weapons and tactics, and illustrating each with numerous personal recollections from soldiers who were there. This book provides an exploration of the human experience of war unlike any I have read. Additionally, it provides a meditation on violence that would give any parent pause. Very scholarly, but accessable, this is a harrowing read.
