Customer Reviews of The Year of Living Dangerously
Great cast, riveting story Mel Gibson, when he was young and still sane. Sigourney Weaver, always classy. The remarkable Linda Hunt, playing a man you won't soon forget. This is a sometimes tense story of a journalist trying to get the story on 1960s Indonesia and the political upheaval therein, putting himself in danger as a result. You can feel the sweat, humidity and misery that Peter Weir filmed.
The Year of Living Dangerously
Weir's romantic thriller is a tense, colorful ride. The director heightens our awareness of impending societal disruption, keeping us continually on edge. Gibson has never been more magnetic as Guy, and the captivating Weaver exudes sensuality and mystery. Yet actress Hunt is the revelation in the gender-bending role of Billy -- it won her an Oscar.
Great film, poor DVD
The film is great, the DVD completely outdated and the film in desperate need of a new HD transfer. Hopefully soon on HD disc. This transfer is 90s garbage. Not much better than VHS.
