Detailed synopsis is pointless; The Wire must be seen, heard, and absorbed to fully appreciate the way in which over 40 characters are flawlessly incorporated into a sprawling but tightly disciplined plot that deals, in the larger sense, with the deindustrialization of America and the struggle of longshoremen in a changing economical climate. Offering a privileged and occasionally frightening glimpse of the inner workings of shipping ports and cargo transports, The Wire is also a detailed exposé of organized crime and blue-collar corruption, and an authentic, well-informed study of political maneuvering among police and city officials. There's not a single false note to be found in the cast, direction, or writing of this phenomenal series, hailed by many critics as "the best show on television." With all due respect to HBO's other excellent series, The Wire tops them all. --Jeff Shannon

Customer Reviews of The Wire - The Complete Second Season
4.5 star 2nd Season in the Docks of B-More Season 2 almost equaled the greatness of Season 1 as it stay in my hometown, Baltimore (this time in south instead of west Baltimroe). With the main plot around the dockworkers of Locust Point in south Baltiimore. Baltimore's struggling cargo dockshas corruption, smuggling, and murder draw the attention of detective McNulty. What follows is a series of events which at first seem unrelated (including 13 bodies found in a cargo container), and then the ongoing effort to topple the drug empire of "Stringer" Bell & Avon Barksdale (ruinning it from prison),whose business is suffering from short supply, high demand, and disruption of distribution and bad product. The dutiful diligence & arrogance of McNulty and the moral outrage of the longshoremen's union leader are also factored into the suspicious goings-on, with more curruption and crime lords int he mix then season 1 you get some important murders and arrests once again and what unfolds in these 12 episodes is an American crime epic that sets us up perfoect once again for another great (I'm sure) Season 3. <

Dense and powerful.
This kind of show would get killed on broadcast TV. You have to have patience and it will reward you with its stable of characters. The creators of this show know Baltimore so well. Do yourself a favor and see how a real cop show looks like. Watch the Wire.
The best TV show ever, end of story
You can quibble about which is best, Season 1,2 or 3(when the hell's it coming out on DVD, HBO?), but this stunning, multilayered, verite series is simply without parallel in television history. And this is coming from a hardcore fan of the Sopranos, X-Files, etc. I've dug 'em all, folks, but this one sets the standard. Acting, realism, involving many-charactered story lines, damning commentary on the world we live in today - it's all there. It is hard going sometimes to watch and keep up with - it takes attention and diligence, which I think must have something to do with its relative lack of ratings success for an HBO show....but give it a shot, stick with it, and I promise it'll repay your effort. You'll quickly become immersed in its seedy, but rich world and find yourself devoting all your spare time to consuming as much of it as possible...you'll be "fiending" for the Wire in no time flat!
