Type or Die!
This is truly one of the most creative & exciting 'educational' PC games around. The graphics are absolutely fantastic. Yes, it's certainly gory and violent, but hey, you're killing zombies (and they're already dead), plus they're trying to kill the living - so you're saving lives! (Not to mention your own life). Anyway, this is certainly a way to vastly improve your typing speed & accuracy. It also forces you to keep cool under pressure (while the zombies creep toward you). Sort of like 'Night of the Living Dead' - only in color! The game has a storyline, but here is one of the game's few downsides which is the pathetically poor dialogue and bad acting of the good guys. The rest is so good that it's easy to forgive this minor flaw. There are six levels with new zombies along the way, plus a 'boss' at the end of each level, which is a pretty horrible monster/zombie that tests you even more. Well-worth every penny - I don't feel guilty for playing & having fun because I know that I'm also improving my typing along the way (at least that's what I tell my wife & daughters who are grossing-out as they watch). Everyone tells me that Mavis Beacon's typing tutor is completely boring; forget that and go have some fun with 'Typing of the Dead.' Remember the game's motto: 'type the hell out of them!'

Guilty fun for the expert typist
What a very odd game this is! Designed, I believe, to hone the skills of the indifferent typist, with drills where demons are destroyed when you correctly type the words floating over their heads. It sounds like a good thing for the kids, huh? No, not really. The level of typing expertise required to win is phenomenal. (I'm an excellent typist, 100 wpm+, and I only rated a B+. I beg your pardon?!) It's not suited to someone just learning to type (beginning touchtyping section notwithstanding), and it's much too frustrating for kids; on the other hand, if you already know how to type and just want a good excuse to make yourself practice, this is your baby.

Voice acting is hysterically bad, sound effects are deafening, plot is nonexistent, graphics are okay but nothing to write home about, and there's only six levels. So why is it so addictive?

Mindless game turned educational?
I was never a huge fan of the original HOTD. Lightgun games were never my thing, but typing...now typing I can do. This has to be the most amusing and creative game I have seen in ages. I easily type 80+wpm, and have found countless challenges within this game. I agree with the other reviewers though, it may be frustrating for beginners...but if you learn best by being thrown in the middle of things, this game is perfect.

I am easily amused by games that the general public would normally find either corny, childish, or just plain stupid. At first glance, this game would fall under the last catagory...but don't let it fool you. Hidden within this is a gem of a typing tutor.
