Customer Reviews of The Three Stooges: Kook's Tour
Hilarious, in a sick, twisted, demented way. Let me first point out that The Three Stooges to me are without a doubt the most important comedy act of the twentieth century and certainly their presence is felt still today on television.
They definately had stamina from their beginning in 1934 to this
grotesque performance in the great year of 1970. But, like everything that is alive in this magnificent universe, everything, unfortunatly must die or end as well. I can't help but crack up looking at how old Moe, and Larry look especially the latter who unfortunatly had a stroke during the filming of this movie maybe because it was so depressing to realize how the
hell it all came to end up like this. And let's not forget Curly Joe, the lame 2nd replacement of Curly after the horrible first of Joe. Whatever was the reason to this happening, I feel that there are two main reasons. First, Moe and Larry either had
absurd egos to not realize the bags of bones they have become or Capitalism is an evil ism that will try to suck as much money
out of one individual until they are either dead or useless ie
Norman Maurer. Because of what I have above mentioned I feel that this is the most hilarious thing they ever did. Diehard Stooge fans, lighten up. I know most of you don't like seeing this fim but remember, we are all going to grow old and die some day, that's life. So enjoy it.
This unaired pilot represents the Three Stooges' swan song
"Kook's Tour" marks the end of the road for the Three Stooges. When television had revived interested in the Stooges, who were appearing in a mostly animated series, Moe Howard's son-in-law, Norman Maurer, came up with the idea for "Kook's Tour." After a half-century of performing the Stooges (Moe Howard, Larry Fine, and Joe DeRita at this point), were going to be taking a vacation, visiting national parks around the country with their dog Moose. The Stooges put up their own money and decided to shoot the pilot without a script, hoping to just rely on whatever situations the boys might find along the way to generate some humor.
This unaired pilot, narrated by Moe, is essentially unedited home movies. The project was never actually completed, because before the Stooges got to that point Larry suffered a debilitating stroke. What is left is not really enjoyable, especially the bits where the Stooges, all relatively old men at this point, are taking falls out in the wilds. The best running gag is the inability of Larry to catch a fish, as he is bested by not only Moe and Curly Joe, but Moose and his own hat. Otherwise, they are just falling into lakes and pointing out the sites. But given that this is the end of the road for the Stooges, "Kook's Tour" does have that historical value. It is just their ending is filled much more with sadness than with humor. For the true fan of the Stooges watching this can be a painful experience. If these really had just been home movies, instead of a last attempt to stay in the limelight, they would be much more enjoyable.
The last of the three stooges in feature filming together
I must say in all these years looking and searching for this movie finally did pay off, although I was expecting only some humor from it. Now we all know they were excellent in making their feature length movies, but you do have to expect less slapstick due to their advanced ages. For three old men, they do have their funny moments. The film was done on the cheap type of film (super 8) but that doesn't mean that you can't see them on this film. They well deserved the vacation even though it only turns out whacky when they try to be real "gentlemen" in this film. It could've been alot better if the stooges were able to practice the lines that were given to them instead of going with the flow as they go. Also Norman shoul've left his dog in the doghouse, Moose just wasn't that all funny and nessesary in this picture. If Norman left the stooges alone, we all know this film would've been alot more funnier and with alot more slapstick. What Norman was thinking god only knows except the money he was hoping to make off of the boys. Other than that, this is a very rare piece of film that all stooge fans should get from this site. It may not be their funniest, but it does have some funny parts and many scenes of beautiful scenery where they go camping. And as usual, they have their moments. Watch the part when Larry asks Moe how much gas is left in the boats gas tank.
