Customer Reviews of The Thing - Collector's Edition
Absolute Classic About 2 years ago I turned on to see the last 20 minutes of a movie that captivated me. I found it to be the most interesting movie I had ever seen. I love Sci/Fi movies and this was mind blowing to me. Sadly, I never caught the name of the film. Luckily, I recently made a trip to Blockbuster and the movie caught my eye. I looked on the back of the boz to discover a frozen picture of Kurt Russel. I had finally found the movie I was looking for and let me tell you that the whole movie is just as good as the last 20. The movie has the total package. Great Performances by Kurt Russel, Wilford Brimley and Keith David(who is great in everything he does I think hes very underrated). Great FX which were the top of the line when the movie was made. Very odd score which I thought fit very well with a movie thats very odd. The story is amazing and its wonderful how everyone is paranoid and nobody can trust anybody. This is an amazing movie that messes with your head. The DVD also comes with alot of extra goodies for you to enjoy. BUY THIS MOVIE ASAP. YOU'LL LOVE IT
A Serious, Suspenseful Thriller. The Special FX still Dazzle
Being a Huge John Carpenter fan and an Even Bigger Kurt Russel fan, I didn't need much prodding to purchase "The Thing - Collectors Edition" on DVD, (even though I had Never seen it) and even though it was a Gamble, it was a Gamble that paid off.
Kurt Russel plays part of an American Research team in Antarctica, who seem to be Infested with some kind of Alien Species, as The Thing infiltrates members of the group, (using their bodies like pods) the members left alive begin to fight amongst themselves. It's becomes a "Nobody trust Nobody" scenario that Descends into an Orgy of Violence and Carnage. (if that doesn't excite you, nothing will)
Kurt's makes his Character the Strong Silent type, like "Snake Plissken", his character in John Carpenters "Escape from New York". The Entire Cast takes it all Very, Very Seriously, which helps make the film Genuinely Scary. John Carpenter help by getting Maximum Thrills out of the Scenario, the Sets and the Special Effects. Rob Bottin's Alien Effects are some of the most Ingenious Creations in Cinema History.
These days, Scary, Serious Monster movies are quite rare. Films like "Deep Rising" and "The Mummy" are played more for laughs, "Anaconda" and "Lake Placid" are about as Scary as "Attack of the Teletubies", "The Thing" is Different. It is a Deadly Serious, Genuinely Scary Thriller that works Just as well Today as it did in the 80's.
perfection
My all time, number one favorite film,"The thing" is a hell of a ride. From the classic opening credits to the suprising ending "the thing" burns into the mind with its chilling mood @ atmosphere. It also has the best movie monster ever seen,no weak cgi,old fashioned blood @ tears created this horrific beast. It takes the the viewer from one tense situation to another, giving you the feeling it wont be a happy ending for the 12 men trapped in the middle of nowhere. If you couldnt tell I highly recommened "The thing".
