How many movies offer the rare spectacle of a parasailing pink starfish flying over a crowd with a congratulatory pennant clenched between his buttcheeks? And that's only the tip of the iceberg--The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie is a freewheeling goof of a cartoon, full of surreal twists as its diminutive heroes head down a dangerous road to rescue the lost crown of King Neptune. SpongeBob (voiced by Tom Kenny), an arrested adolescent in the mold of Pee-wee Herman, works at a fast-food restaurant that serves something called Krabby Patties (as the restaurant owner is himself a crab, it's not clear what exactly they're made of). His best friend Patrick Starfish (Bill Fagerbakke) lives under a rock and has an IQ in the lower digits. Still, their friendship carries them through many a tight spot as they strive for manliness. Anyone seeking a coherent world will be disappointed; in this undersea adventure, things catch on fire or seem to be surrounded by air whenever it's convenient for a gag. The jokes are often more silly than actually funny, but there's an undeniably energetic joviality to the proceedings. Featuring the voices of Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Tambor, Alec Baldwin, and a fully fleshed appearance by David Hasselhoff. --Bret Fetzer

The "Crown" Of The Series (No Pun Intended)!
I have been a fan of SpongeBob SquarePants ever since its early days. However I have always believed that, as good as the series is, it would never do good with a movie. And boy, was a wrong? The month of November, 2004, made me think differently. Even the previews that had been played for months prior to its opening made me completely forget that I said it wouldn't do well as a movie.

> Just seeing the movie once made me change my look on SpongeBob SquarePants, for the better. I have wondered what it would be like if they hadn't created this. The movie itself is hilarious. Sure, we didn't see a whole lot of Squidward or Mr. Krabs, but their roles were essential to the plot. Despite their shorter on screen time, SpongeBob and Patrick made up for that with their usual, amusing selves. Watch them as they get drunk on ice cream, get into massive trouble in the Thug Tug, make fools out of monsters of a sea trench, and more!

> As I said, the movie is hilarious. However there is more to it than that. There is also the relationships between the characters. Patrick finally finds a girl that he falls in love with (Princess Mindy). The movie also shows SpongeBobs loyalty to Mr. Krabs, despite Mr. Krabs negative opinion towards SpongeBobs maturity. Also, Squidward finally feels pride towards SpongeBob. But putting all that aside, one of the more important parts is the friendship bond between SpongeBob and Patrick, seeing how they stick together until the end.

> The plot gets very under rated. King Neptunes crown was stolen, and Mr. Krabs was framed. Now SpongeBob and Patrick must journey to Shell City to retrieve it in six days.

>Now too many people take that story for granted, but there is more meaning to it. Although so many people call SpongeBob and Patrick children, they now must prove that they aren't kids. However in the end they come to the realization that they are kids, but that they can do anything that adults can do. All of Bikini Bottom was in peril, and SpongeBob and Patrick (the kids) were the only ones left that could save everyone. The message in the story: believe in yourself, and be who you are. The quest for the crown is basically just to give them something to do in order to prove themselves.

> Now I close my review. But I will leave you with a few words. If you have not seen the movie, I strongly recommend you do. I proudly on it on DVD. It is a great movie for everyone, possibly even better than any episode in the series. I think it makes a suitable closing story for the adventures of SpongeBob SquarePants!
My Son Loves SpongeBob
I bought this for my 7 year old son who loves SpongeBob. He watched it every day during the summer. I would highly recommend this DVD for kids and adults who enjoy watching SpongeBob. It was a delightful movie.
