The big news for the movie is that Tommy gets a new baby brother, named Dylan (or Dil for short). The rest of the film has no real plot but is a series of adventures as the clan gets lost in the forest riding an inventive Reptar wagon that is the '90s equivalent of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Parents search for the kids, the kids learn new lessons, everyone goes home happy. The Rugrats Movie is not as wildly appealing as A Bug's Life but is far goofier and wackier with its animation. There's also a tremendous sense of joy that is often missing from cartoons these days, and the songs used in the film--from such diverse musicians as Busta Rhymes, Iggy Pop, Lisa Loeb, Lou Rawls, Beck, and Devo--add to the fun. It's an acquired taste, but the creators' first efforts to take the 10-minute TV sketches into an 80-minute feature pay off.
The video contains a short (Winslow Doc) from Nickelodeon's series CatDog. Although the animation is similar, one can only hope the series does not reach the popularity of Rugrats. --Doug Thomas

Customer Reviews of The Rugrats Movie
Bad!! This movie was one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Between the annoying sound track of the babies singing...... and the very thin and boring plot, this movie was horrible. It begins when Didi has a baby named Dil, and they get lost in the woods on the border of town (which I am sure did not exist in the show)and they try to find their way back. The Grown-ups save them. The end. It was one of the most predictable story plot I have ever heard.
If I were you, I'd skip this one, and see Rugrats in Paris, unless you are a huge Rugrats fan.
The Rugrats Movie:Perfect Even For Those Without Diapers
"The Rugrats Movie", the feature film based on Nickelodeon's #1 cable TV series, hits the big screen with a BANG! This is one of the top movies of 1998, and is an excellent choice for the whole family. 1-year-old Tommy Pickles gets a little gift--a newborn brother named Dil--who seems to...get in the way. Feeling unloved and unappreciated, Tommy, his friend Chuckie and the twins Phil & Lil inadverently end up lost in a forest in Tommy's dad's invention with Dil. And Angelica, Tommy's bullying older cousin, even gets into the act--but only to retrieve her Cynthia doll that Dil had previously stolen. The adults, meanwhile, try to track down their little darlings. Filled with fun, wonder, and life from a baby's point of view, "The Rugrats Movie" is a pick everyone should enjoy...especially for those who still obtain that child within us.
very funny
I saw this in a movie theater filled with Rugrats. Even though I am probably too old to watch cartoons, I throughly enjoyed this movie! Watch it alone or with your old Rugrats, I am sure ALL will enjoy it.
