Peter Weller makes a nice impression as Captain Gallico (named after the author of The Poseidon Adventure's source novel) and Adam Baldwin is terrific as a Homeland Security operative. In our current political climate, the temptation is strong to attribute the Poseidon's troubles to terrorists, and that's exactly what happens this time around. Some of the action concerning Al Quaeda-like infiltration of the Poseidon's service staff, the planting of bombs, etc., is a little overdone, and a number of scenes starring British actress Alex Kingston as a senior intelligence official are a bit overwrought. But special effects, while not spectacular, make the Poseidon tragedy unnervingly believable (and visually surreal), and a solid cast keeps the accent on emotion despite the script's tendency to shove speeches in everyone's mouth. --Tom Keogh

Customer Reviews of The Poseidon Adventure (2005 TV Movie) (Full Screen Edition)
Ever get this SINKING feeling Ever felt you been here before and yet not...Deja vu, right? NO, it's a bad remake of a classic disaster film. <
> <
>32 years later, Hallmark Entertainment tries to do a mini series of the Poseidon with modern day updates. Instead of a tidal wave, it is a bomb that inverts the ship upside down. The cop character is now a homeland security agent (Adam Baldwin) dragging a terrorist through the wreckage of the ship to justice. The priest is now a Bishop (Rutger Hauer). The Red Button character from the first movie, now played by Bryan Brown, is now married to singer, an International Idol pop star. The smart kid from the first film is now a junior Speilburg with a video cam that never runs out of battery life. The young girl (Pamela Sue Martin character in the first film) is now the daughter of Steve Guttenberg, a cheating family man who is headed for divorce. Peter Weller is the Captain who character name is the same as the original book's author (Paul Gallico)...a nice touch! You can not fault the actors, they do the best they can with this material..one would blame the script writer who could not make this chestnut revised without treading too close of repeating the deepness of the original <

>There are a few additions to the remake that does not make this sail any better. Alex (ER) Kingston is a sort of federal international rescue head, the role seem so added at the last minute. A ship's doctor (C. Thomas Howell) who reminds me of DR Bricker from Love Boat. <

>However, this watered down soap opera is not better than the original in a longer form...in many ways it drags down the audience in this watered down version. In someways, it seem like a LOVE BOAT episode with dramatic melodrama and adventure added in the mix. If you saw the first, most of the same things happen with few changes. The last shot is the ship sinking..THANK GOD NO SEQUAL! <

>So you want that sinking feeling again, get the originally 1972 film with Gene Hackman, Red Button, Shelly Winters, Ernest Borgnine and Stella Stevens. [[ASIN:B000EHSVNW The Poseidon Adventure (Special Edition)]]. However This remake misses the epic adventure mark by miles. <

Good movie but negative
I heard about this movie and saw it on TV one time. I thought of buying one for myself. The negative thing is there is NO CLOSED CAPTIONED or SUBTITLE for Deaf, Hearing Impaired and Hard of Hearing. It isnt worth it for deaf people to buy it.
it takes to long to get to the "roll over"
this t.v. remake comes one year before the big screen one but speed in release is all that it meant. the first hour and a half is about terrorist planting bombs aboard the ship in a post 9/11 bid to get world attention. it's bombs not waves that flip this boat. this does give time to get to know the people better but really only a few are worth the time. the last hour and a half starts the adventure and is solid if cheaply made action.not for all taste but if you can stick with it(a big if) you can have some adventure here.
