Customer Reviews of The Mothership Connection Live From Houston
P-Funk Still Rules I'm an ole school P-FUNK fan...great concert, lighting/reflection is a little poor, but that's due to the year of the show and not great technology/cameras and film. <
>The last part of the concert makes you feel like you are there! I wish I was!! Too bad not a full concert with everyone in it...Sly Stone, and Bootsy!! Over all very good show! A must for all Funkerteer's!
Vintage Parliament
It didn't even occur to me that there was a tape of a live Parliament Funkadelic show when they were young and at their peak in 1970s. Folks weren't exactly rushing to document R&B/funk like they did the rock bands back then. That changed when I saw the recent Parliament Funkadelic documentary One Nation Under a Groove on PBS (hopefully that will be available on DVD soon.) As I was watching Glenn Goins, George Clinton and the Mothership, I thought, wait a minute. Where did the filmmakers get that footage from?? A search on Amazon gave me my answer.

>I'm thrilled to have this DVD watching a younger (and dare I say sexy) George Clinton and Bernie Worrell. We also get to see members who have since passed on as they perform Cosmic Slop and Gammin on Ya. The DVD, which shows why Clinton is worshipped by performers such as Prince, Dr. Dre and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, should be required viewing for aspiring R&B singers and bands today as a lesson of true creativity and showmanship.

>Granted, the video visuals are not the greatest but keep in mind it was filmed in the 70s before the entertainment industry conceived that there would be a home video market. I like to think of it as actually being at a concert where it's dark, people are blocking your view and you can't see everything anyway. Shortcomings aside this is a treasure.
P-Funk, Uncut Funk, the Bomb!
If you think P-Funk is good on record, you will hyped by seeing them in concert. Unfortunately, I never had the chance to see these guys live, so this is the closest thing I have to the memorable and elaborate shows that P-Funk held in the mid to late 70's. All of the songs get two thumbs from me. The highlights of this show is the always great "Cosmic Slop," with Garry Shider at his best, "Standing on the Verge of Getting it On," where Fuzzy Haskins goes crazy, "Swing Down, Sweet Chariot," with Glen Goins at his all-time best, and the grand finale of "Tear the Roof off the Sucka" and "Night of the Thumpasorus Peoples" in which Bootsy/Bootsy's Rubber Band along with Sly and the Family Stone make guest appearences. You feel like your actually there and it is almost irresistable to not dance. The lighting really isn't an issue, though it is hard to see what is what at times. It's only minor, though, and shouldn't sour this P-Funk odyssey. I recommend to any fan who has either seen the Funk Mob live, or not.
