Customer Reviews of The Monday Night War - WWE Raw vs. WCW Nitro
Add to your collection The "Monday Night War" depicts those few years many regard as the "glory years" competition wise in sports entertainment. It shows an interesting look at each brand's (WCW and the then WWF) attempts to become the dominant wrestling company in the world. <
> <
>In the short of it, the WWE won. Like they say that the victors of war alter history in their favor, this collection is no different. The WWE plays itself as a victim of sorts against the "rogue WCW". <
> <
>While it ultimately makes the Documentary more entertaining, you can't help but wonder if it tells the "whole truth". <
> <
>Still, the extras and the main feature are definitely worth a look if you are as big as wrestling fan as I am.

>I watched RAW and Nitro for many years until the WCW's demise on March 2001. Yes, I flipped back and forth, but most of the time the WWF caught my interest because I loved their wrestling and their Attitude so much better than WCW's classic style of doing things. Even when groups like the nWo came along, I felt is was just another band of villains instead of a group that changed the face of wrestling. WCW was a story, but the WWF was entertainment. I prefer the latter, but this program blew me away with the fact that WCW defeated the WWF in ratings for nearly 2 years. I don't see how they did, but so be it.

>What helps "The Monday Night War" is that there's a focus on the storylines that were a breakthrough on wrestling TV, and then documents how they were groundbreaking for the time, both behind the scenes and on the screen. But what hurts "The Monday Night War" is that there aren't enough people commenting on the vicious TV battle. Call me a sadist, but I want more of the madness that destroyed WCW. Why is this only 90 minutes long? There are so many other stories to explore (The Wolf-Pac, The Corporation, The end of the ECW). Plus, elaboration is needed here. Rey Mysterio comments on how the new talent never made it to the top of the WCW...let's hear those talented performers share that. Eddie Guerrero talks about being worried about nephew Chavo...where's Chavo? Stone Cold was the breakthrough in WWF television...where are the Rattlesnake's thoughts? Ric Flair despised David Russo...they barely scratch the surface on who he is and how he destroyed the WCW, and instead how him quitting in mid-2000.

>I don't claim to exactly know how this program could've been better, because I didn't catch every single story that WWF and WCW created. But I do know that this feels like the Cliff's Notes. Yes, this is a good program to view, and did inform me on many aspects of "The Monday Night War" that I didn't know. But am I to understand that from 1993 to 2001, that 90 minutes is the entire story? I don't believe so.

>The Extra Features are nice, but they feel extremely random. The WWF has brilliant Tag Team match with Stone Cold & Shawn Michaels battling then-Tag-Team champs Owen Hart & The British Bulldog, plus another match with HBK & Triple H against The Legion of Doom. WCW features a couple of matches: a good one with Chris Benoit and Booker T, and a boring one with Goldberg and Hollywood Hogan. Plus, there are some nice segments including the DX raids and Rick Rude's dual appearance on both shows.

>I don't recommend a purchase, unless there is a price of 10 bucks or lower. I like this DVD, but I don't feel its necessary to own. Maybe the WWF will create another documentary on "The Monday Night War"...who knows?
Great DVD...with something left to be desired...
This is an awsome DVD, especially for fans who were around at that time. Nicely edited and a great nostalgia trip. It's awsome to see some of the moments that were great contributions to the Monday Night wars and hear vince and Bischoff's take of them. They definatly did the best they could

> Granted it is biased and leaves out a bunch, and rewrites a little bit of history.... but as I said its the best they could do considering they couldn't get rock, hogan, austin, nash, hall, bret hart, or any of those guys to interview, some of the stuff that was really cool but didn't have a major impact (I.E-Fake Diesel & Ramon, Warrior & Piper return, Details on the Radicals debut, Russo's reign and fireing of Hulk Hogan, & more stuff on Bret Hart and dyeing Days of WCW) would have been sweet & they definatly would have added to the DVD but them not being there doesn't hurt the DVD.

>ALl that aside, still a great DVD, it seems like it was a little rushed and thats why they did with what they had. Should have done a three hour DVD like The Rise and Fall of ECW, maybe now that they've seen the success of that DVD they might put out something to go with this featuring a lot of the things that are mentioned in the other reviewers reviews.
