Customer Reviews of The Magnificent Seven (TV Series)
How the West was Fun Having come to the Trilogy Productions series of "The Magnificent Seven" (main movers John Watson/Pen Desham) by way of grainy VHS copies of the original airings four years after the original air dates, I would definitely like to see this version of the Magnificent 7 legend released to DVD.
Released in uncut format, please. Later syndication showings have chopped bits out of scenes and it does injustice to the layers of interesting story put into each episode.
This series did not cater to the "stupid" level of story telling. It expected viewers to keep watch on the background as well as the foreground action. It gave a hat tipped respect to the historical ambience and still managed to weave personalities, action, drama and irreverence into a larger than life mix of characters that appealed to modern viewers.
Is it original? No, even though it reworked some of the main characters and reasons for the seven men to come together. The reworks succeeded and held true to the spirit of the original "Magnificent Seven" movie and even to "the Seven Samurai", paying homage in direct and indirect ways to its predecessors. Did it have a charisma missed by similar attempts at ensemble cast shows around at the time and by many of the shows on TV right now? Emphatically, yes.
This series was saved from its first premature cancellation at the end of the first season by a very vocal viewing fan base who noticed this as well. TV executive shenanigans sank it the next season with episodes unaired, despite further viewer protests. What they were thinking, only TV executives might know.
It deserves another chance to find viewers. This is one of those shows that, despite its scant appearances in syndication, still attracts fresh fans to it years after its official demise. I'm testimony to that.
When will the wait be over?
I only saw the 'Magnificent Seven' TV series very sporadically in the UK - it kept getting 'bounced' from the TV schedules in favour of sporting events - but I was totally hooked on the episodes I saw.
The storylines were action-packed, humurous, moralistc and pertinent even to our modern world. The cast were awesome, and each talented actor was given the chance to shine either individually or as a collective. There was not a single weak episode made, and the writing and directing was superb too. In short, this superlative TV western series should never have been cancelled. But it was.
But what is perhaps an even greater travesty, is that the studio/owners haven't yet released the show on DVD. Surely this is a major oversight? I would love to own the complete series on DVD, and the show's universal appeal to young and old alike, means that my elderly parents also want to purchase the 'Magnificent Seven' TV series on disc.
I hope the show is earmarked for DVD release soon. It would make my year!
Do We Have To Beg? Please~!
Now, I do believe that we deserve to have our fav boys on DVD!! I really hope that the studio would release it, because there are lots of fans who are truely in love with the show, but haven't watched a single episode!! Well, take ME for an example, I've fallen hard for the guys only through reading their bios and reading couple of fics... and now, I consider myself one of the biggest fans!
I do believe that plenty of fans would be more than pleased once the Magnificent 7 get released on DVD, and more than many would hurry to get their own copy. So, speaking on the behalf of all the fans who hadn't had the chance to watch these boys do their magic, WE WANT THE SERIES ON DVD!!!
With no doubt, once you take as much as a glimpse of the show, you'd get hooked. It's one of the best series I've ever heard of (unfortunately, not watched), and the fans are growing in the speed of light and there's no wonder why! It would be more than great to get the series on DVD, and I plan to buy my own copy once it's released.
