Customer Reviews of The Last American Virgin
Lots of FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!! When people talk about great 80's teen movies, everyone brings up "Breakfast Club" or "16 Candles", but not many people will mention "Last American Virgin". Not many people remember this movie. It has everything you would want in a "teenage movie"...Nudity, great laughs, nudity, issues dealing with teenage problems (abortion), nudity, a young cast that actully LOOKS like they are teenagers, nudity, a awesome soundtrack with all the 80's hits, nudity, a great story that actully makes you cry, and NUDITY!!! This is a great cast that really makes you believe everything that is going on. the best scenes are the hot latin babe the boys deliver pizza to, the scene when they are having the party and the parents come home and catch a house full of naked kids, and the ending scene, which really is very touching, it brings a tear to my eye! You MUST try to find a copy of this somewhere, and when you watch it you will have a new favorite 80's movie. Hope they come out with a DVD version soon...what a shame if they dont.
The last American great teen movie
I've searched long and hard for a copy of this video for one reason - it is one of the best movies ever made. Teen angst, humor, the ramifications of teenage sex, friendship, betrayal, and above all else, love. Plus it boasts the greatest soundtrack ever compiled. From "Keep On Loving You" to "I Know What Boys Like" to the tearjerker "Oh No", you can't help but love it. Who didn't shed a tear when Lawrence Monoson, who did a superb job as the lead character "Gary",... well I won't give it away for the one or two individuals who have not yet seen this great movie. I've watched this movie at best a hundred times! And it makes me feel good every time I watch it. We've all been there, and I think that it's a movie that our youth should be watching today - wait to lose your virginity, no matter what the cost. I suggest everyone have a copy of this in their video collection.
Memorable Teen Comedy/Drama...
This film predates the recent flood of brainless teen comedies by almost twenty years, yet it remains one of the best examples of the genre.
The film relates the story of three friends embarking on a quest to get laid. Along the way, Gary (Lawrence Monoson), falls in love with a pretty new student, Karen (Diane Franklin). Unfortunately, Gary's affections are not returned and to further complicate matters Karen begins dating Gary's best friend, a shallow and macho womanizer. When Karen gets pregnant, Gary comes to the rescue hoping to win Karen's heart.
What separates this film from the other teen comedies is substance. The film alternates between hilarious comedy and emotional drama in the last thirty minutes making for a truly unique film. The comedy bits are very memorable including a rendez vous with a nymphomaniac, salsa dancing latina and Gary's encounter with an overweight young lady whose bra will just not co-operate. Unlike many comparable films the acting is top notch also, Monoson and Franklin are terrific in particular. Interestingly enough both would work in the horror genre, Monoson in the forgettable Friday The 13th IV: the Final Chapter and Franklin in Amityville II: The Possession. The film is fueled by a great eighties soundtrack featuring diverse artists like Tommy Tutone, U2, Devo and REO Speedwagon.
Though the DVD is very bare bones, the picture quality is fantastic and the audio is acceptable too. A theatrical trailer is included.
Based on an Israeli film I have never heard of, The Last American Virgin is highly recommended to those searching for a good, raunchy laugh.
