The second season has no overarching plotlines or recurring themes; it's just a compilation of excellent material, including Doug's ego inflating when a waitress flirts with him; Doug and Carrie squirming when their best friends ask them to be godparents; Doug discovering that Carrie compulsively cheats at games; and a flashback to when they first met. It's the attention to emotional detail that makes the show fly; James and Remini take the most mundane material--say, an argument over where to go for a vacation or how their marriage lacks romance--and turn the many ways in which couples cope into a pugnacious duet. Their sparring not only is funny, but consistently rings true as irrational but oh-so-common human behavior. The show pulls you in all the more because the Heffernans make up just as often as they fight, demonstrating one of the most functional marriages on television. It's meat-and-potatoes comedy, but sometimes nothing else will hit the spot. --Bret Fetzer

Customer Reviews of The King of Queens - The Complete Second Season
I loved this DVD! The King of Queens is still the one of the funniest shows on TV. I loved watching the second season on DVD. Kevin James and Leah Remini have great chemistry as a married couple, and Jerry Stiller is so funny as Arthur. The story lines on the show are so funny and simple. My favorite episode is the one about how Doug and Carrie meet for the first time. The episode where Doug tries so hard to rekindle the romance in his marriage by giving Carrie flowers is very funny too. I also loved the episode where Doug takes Arthur to a baseball game after he accidently hurts his feelings. Jerry Stiller is just hillarious in the episode where Arthur gets a job managing a pretzel shop. I also enjoyed the episode where Doug buys a RV trailer and argues with Carrie about where to go on vacation. Victor Williams, who plays Deacon Palmer on the show is Doug's best friend and a perfect supporting cast member. One of the funniest episodes of season 2 is where Doug and Deacon go to Atlantic City to go gambling.
This DVD does not include interviews with the cast members like on the 1st season DVD, but it does have a feature called A Day in the Life of Kevin James. It shows Kevin James going on various talk shows like Conan and Regis and Kelly and having fun playing baseball. This extra feature shows that Kevin James is such a nice person in real life. This DVD is really fun to watch. I can't wait until the 3rd season of the show is released on DVD.
The 1st season was great and the 2nd season should be great
I started watching The King Of Queens during its 4th season and ever since then I have seen almost every show since the 4th season. I got the 1st season for Christmas and it was worth it. There was not hours of special features but all 25 episodes are great and the bouns episodes from seasons 2 and 3 were great as well. So i can not wait for the 2nd season to come out in April. I hope that the 2nd season DVD will contain deleted scenes, a gag-reel, more interviews with the cast and crew, and commentaries by the cast and crew.
Great show, gets better with time.
This season was better than the first season, and the first season was excellent. So as season two is now out on DVD, I rushed to the store and picked it up, and spent and entire weekend watching the Heffernan's, and Arthur. I think my favorite episode has to be eitehr the one where Doug gets stuck in the attic with Ray Romano, or the classic episode where Doug throws the really bad Bachelor party for his cousin. There are a few filler episodes that I felt could have been done a lot better. Especially the where Doug met Carrie episode, and the episode where Doug and the football team reunite. But those episodes are still good for a few laughs. Pick it up, its well worth it.
