Customer Reviews of The Full Monty
They give the "Chippendales" a run for their money! That this movie was such a massive hit at the box office shouldn't surprise anyone who has seen it. Made on a shoestring budget, shot in some dismal locations, and with the actors and crew probably only being paid the minimum wage, this movie has the heart, the energy, and the emotion that highly overbudgeted and overrated Hollywood blockbusters lack. When the lead character, Gaz, (played to droll perfection by Robert Carlyle) is faced with losing rights to his son because his child support is in arrears, he comes up with an easy way to earn the money and have a bit left over - by recruiting his best friend, their ex-boss, and 3 others to join him in a "Chippendales" act, where for one night only, they will go "The Full Monty." (Hence the title). But as it turns out, they will not just be ripping their duds off for money - along the way they will learn about friendship, caring, togetherness, and self respect, without which no human being can survive. Alternately side splittingly funny and deeply touching, this is a film which can be enjoyed by those who like a dose of humour and sensitivity kneaded into the same dough.
Delivers on all levels
Six unlucky blokes plan a chippendales performance. Five of them are ordinary looking fellows who promise to bare it all as the box office attraction. The film is set in Sheffield, sort of an English Pittsburgh. Alas, Sheffield's steel producing industry has fallen on hard times and its former steel workers are on the dole.
Robert Carlyle plays the ringleader and the only dancer who really has anything to lose. His character is a slightly dishonest, but well meaning, ne'er do well. He wants to be with his son, but can't afford to pay child support, won't get a job and keeps dragging the boy into one inappropriate situation after another. His ex is fed up and about to wash her hands of him and claim sole custody. Carlyle's character and his rotund side kick, played by Mark Addy, notice the attention a professional troupe of chippendales receives and decide to give it a go.
They are joined by a morose band player/security guard, their former supervisor, a middle aged fellow and a stud. All six are sad sacks in one way or another. All the jobs are gone and things are bleak as they hang out at the local unemployment center. They find friendship and joy in training for the performance. Formerly bleak lives perk up a little. Good acting and a kind heart drive TFM. A perfect blend of sly humor with touching emotion. The most entertaining movie of the year, much better than Titantic and even Good Will Hunting.
I Live in the house where it was filmed!!!!!!!!!!
hey guys! i'm actually from Britain and firstly I'd like to say thanx to every1 who saw the film bought it or loved it! it's nice 2 know that the work of the british film making industry is not going unnoticed overseas!
i loved this film and moved house around a year ago! it wasn't until a neighbour had informed us that our film was actually used in the film and was included in the final cut!
the parts involving my home are quite long ones so watch put for them! here goes:
1, when they're practising in the lounge and are all stood there in their boxers feeling a bit shameful! 2 guys then come in and attempt to reposess his tv! they pick it up and turn round to find the rest of the lads stood there with no clothes on and i believe their words are 'put down and piss off'!
2, the second place where my film is featured is when robert carlyle and the fat guy are stood outside playing with the knomes in their ex-bosses garden! this was again my front garden which i have to admit is now a knome-free zone!
3, the third place where my house is featured is when they are in a bedroom and one of them is laid on a sunbed and i think carlyle enters with a pack of red leather thongs for them each to wear!
i know this isn't really a review so here's a quick synopsis!
the steel industry becomes non existant and all workers are made redundant. in order for carlyle to maintain contact with his son he has to provide for him which involves getting money! however not being work fans he entails his friends and they become strippers in order to make a few bob! the film follows the planning the set backs and they're eventual success! a gr8 film, great plot, great characters, great storyline and no matter how many times you see it you'll always notice something new and it'll never fail to have you in tears! enjoy USA!
