Customer Reviews of The Doobie Brothers - Rockin Down the Highway: The Wildlife Concert
1996 Doobie Brothers concert, with Tom Johnson! Great! Great! Great! Finally, they released this fantastic concert on DVD. This is a Wildlife Preservation Society benefit concert originally recorded for a television broadcast in 1996. The Doobies have had many different lineups through the years. But with Tom Johnson, Pat Simmons, and Michael McDonald appearing together in this concert - all the songs are sung by the original recording vocalists! The one exception to this is that Tiran Porter is not there to sing the "Jesus, he's my friend" break in Jesus is Just Alright. However, Corneius Bumpus does an excellent job filling in for him.
There is a menu option to bypass the musician interviews that occur between some of the songs. When played this way the transition from one song to the next is a bit abrupt. But that's just a minor annoyance, I'm really glad they included this option. And when played with interview segments included, they don't actually cut into the middle of songs like I've seen happen on other concert videos (Allman Brothers at Great Woods, for instance).
Sound quality is excellent and video quality is excellent too.
Doobie Brothers lineup: Tom Johnson, Pat Simmons, Micheal McDonald, Keith Knudsen, Mike Hossack, John McFee, Skylark, Dale Ockerman, Danny Hill.
Additional musicians: Corneius Bumpus, Carlos Guaico, Buck Johnson, Guy Allison.

Great sights and sounds.....
I remember hearing my first Doobies tunes back in grade school. And then I saw their concert special on HBO a long time ago (1980? can't remember), that was an awesome concert, but I cannot find reference to it anywhere (I wish they would remaster that concert and release it on DVD...that was one to remember!) This new DVD is simply excellent...incredible sound quality. I am one who believes mainstream songs from any band are not the real gems, the real diamonds are from well performed less known ones. I guess that is why 2 particular songs on this DVD gave me goose bumps and a feeling of well being...(1)Clear as the Driven Snow and (2) Slow Burn. The sound quality and performances of these 2 songs in particular were a great experience for me. I was expecting a little more power from Without You, but the venue was small and maybe they went for the less powerful approach...very well done otherwise. The studio version of this song is like a locomotive with amplified volume...gotta love the double drummers! Overall, this DVD was a great experience...very nice peice of work...I hope to see them live one day.....

From a fanatical early Doobies fan, rocking to this DVD is an excellent experience. I sit and watch with this silly smile, my wife tells me. After a wine or two then I'm no longer sitting.
So many exellent renditions of many of the Doobies best songs.
Only after watching a few times do you want a Doobies 2 to be released. Having showered the dvd with compliments, it isn't up to BeeGees or F'mac quality. It has an excellent feature to remove the uninteresting diatribe. The auidience needed a rev up.
Mind you if you're a Doobies fan this is an absolute must. They Still Rock!!!
