Customer Reviews of The Diary of Alicia Keys
A Beautiful Diary Those who thought "Songs In A-Minor" is amazing have only heard the beginning. Many thought that its high quality could never be matched or beat. "The Diary of Alicia Keys" beats it. These tracks, which were written from her heart, account her personal thoughts and trials through the last two years of her life. Her powerful words are song amazing soulful, forcing listeners to feel what she's singing. Such quality proves that she's close to Aretha Franklin's level. Her piano playing is equally amazing, further expressing her words. Her combination of Motown R&B and modern day upbeats offer a unique and unmistakable sound with her songwriting. Compared to "Songs In A-Minor", her slightly more full sound, by adding a couple extra instruments, offer the added distinction.
In a time when mainstream music is released only to make money, Alicia Keys represents and gives hope to true musicians. Obviously, she only performs because music is her passion. This may be why her songs are much better than everyone else's. Her talents are delivered in a variety of ways in this album: love, loneliness, sassiness, and more. Regardless if she's singing ballads or upbeat songs, she never flaws a single note. Her hit single "You Don't Know My Name" capitalizes her musical evolution within the past two years.
"The Diary of Alicia Keys" proves that there will be no artist like Alicia Keys. She states with her musical quality that she'll be around for a long time. This album will be a classic. This is sure to please many listeners.
***Expect Alicia Keys to receive at least six Grammy nominations for 2004, including Album of the Year. She deserves them all. She could possibly repeat her five Grammy wins for 2001.
Do you know her name?, check out Alicia's diary...
"Songs In A Minor" by Alicia Keys went on to sell over 10 million copies worldwide and anyone reading this right now will remember when Alicia dominated the Grammy awards, she totally deserved to win and she's made her mark on the music industry. Anyway, moving onto "The Diary Of Alicia Keys" - before I wrote this review I read a few of the others people have wrote and one said that they weren't too pleased that Alicia doesn't use her full (powerful) voice on this album, erm...if it's you who's reading this then I ask you "Have you actually listened to the album?" - ombiously you haven't, I mean take "If I Ain't Got You" for example, that is one of the most beautiful songs on the album, probably the most beautiful. "Steets Of New York" (feat. Nas and Rakim) is a cool R'n'B track with gr8 beats and vocals, I personally think it would make a good single but I doubt it will due to being a bonus track on the Japanese release (I'm not sure whether it's a hidden bonus track on the US and UK releases?.) "You Don't Know My Name" is the first single off the album and I was suprised that it failed to make the top 10 in the UK, I was also suprised to see that this album failed to make the top 10 in the UK but to be quite honest, I'm sorta giving up on the UK charts 'cause it's filled with boy bands and girl bands who are basically after their 15 minutes of fame, and unfortunately that's the way the music industry in the UK works. I can't really say anything to make someone go out and actually buy this album but I personally think it's a very, very good album, Alicia will, without doubt still be around in another 20 years and hopefully she'll go down as one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time.
one of the better albums of today's modern music
alicia keys is one of the more talented young artists of today with her melodic piano hooks, velvet-smooth voice and deep lyrics. She has really grown as a writer, pianist and artist overall on this CD and gives you that feeling old school motown music gives you with it's live instrumentation and soulful vocals. Standout tracks are Heartburn, If I was Your Woman, You Don't Know My Name, Diary, So Simple etc. This was what r&b music was about and should be about, buy immediately!
